Those of you running Beta 5 probably already know.
From the WhatsNew.txt

WHATS NEW:
* Fixed critical issue in the VST/AU plugins that caused tracking quality to
degrade (anywhere from a small degrade to unplayable absymal) whenever an
internal instrument is set inside the plugin.
* Fixed issue with the Windows VST plugin that would fail to be found by some hosts

Thanks for the heads up... I'm on their mailing list, or at least I thought I was...

I must admit that I don't set an instrument within MG2, preferring to add an instance of my desired synth and direct the MIDI from MG2 to it. So I wasn't seeing that problem.

Off to get 6

Yes, thanks Scook.

I had the previous Beta and for some reason, I couldn't get the wave graphic nor trigger any synth (i.e. Alchemy, Kontakt etc..) to play with MG2. I then tried the first Beat of MG2, and was (very easily) able to use it as intended.....so this is probably why they call it Beta. :))

Anyway, glad to see JamOrigin working to resolve these quickly and will give this Beta 6 a shot.

Hi Mesh,

Are you a long standing MIDI Guitar user then?

If so, which do you think is the best option, a) setting up MIDI Guitar to "play" a VST from within MIDI Guitar, or b) letting MIDI Guitar sent its MIDI output to the input of a soft synth track?

That question is only valid if you're using MIDI Guitar within your DAW... Standalone, you have no option, as best as I can work out.

cheers

Hello Andy,
I suppose I'm somewhat of a long standing MG user (since the original MG 1 Beta release), but I haven't tried tracking with it in Sonar. I was waiting for the features in this MG2 as I wanted it to have better response/less erroneous/omitted notes when playing faster.
However, I would definitely choose (b) as I do want to record it within Sonar.  Scook, I believe has done quite a bit of recording with the older releases and possibly might chime in with more details.

Regarding using MG2 in standalone and to route it Sonar, this guy on KVR suggested the following (I still haven't tried though):

The way to route MIDI around the place without using physical ports and leads on 64 bit OS has just been sorted by this piece of software-> loopmidi. Each port you create has a name you have given it, and has an in and out.
So load your generator in a host, and use the MIDI out of MIDIGuitar2.

I'm hoping JamOrigin would have the official release of this VST soon so we don't have to go through all these hoops....just to be able to record.

Hi Mesh,

I think I might have misled you there. No need to route the standalone version into Sonar... The VST comes with the latest beta versions. So we can add it as a VSTi within Sonar, after a bit of messing around in the windows registry...

I use B too. It allows me to record the guitar audio and can clean up the MIDI data when the plug-in or my playing resulted in bad notes. MG2 seems to be much better.

The standalone can be used as described in the KVR post with a virtual MIDI cable.

Mesh, it looks like the spam blocker killed your posts containing links to LoopMidi http://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html. I will add LoopBe1 is another option http://www.nerds.de/en/loopbe1.html. Virtual MIDI cables are handy to have around for MIDI routing whin SONAR too.

There is no need to mess with the registry if you are running X3 or newer. The plug-in is correctly setup in the VST inventory and all that is necessary is make sure "Enable MIDI Output" is checked in the VST2 drop down in the MG or MG2 header.

Older versions of SONAR require setting generateEvents to 1 is in the MG key in the SONAR VST inventory in the registry.

Yeah... That's me I'm afraid... I'm still on X2.

I've yet to try the latest beta in, erm... Reaper. There... I said it.

It is no big deal, I just wanted to make sure those running newer versions of SONAR don't go messing with the registry or configuring ANY effect plug-ins as synths. These steps are no longer necessary.
