And I can't remember what it is. Anyone help me out? :D

I am not sure if there is any screen recording software that could use Asio, but i use when needed :
Bandicam for the screen recording, and VB audio Voicemeeter to handle the Asio sound routing.

Both can be used as free software..

How about an "open source" video editor so you can stitch your video with you music?

Hold that... I'll google it

Hmmm... I installed Bandicam with the idea that I could record the faders and knobs moving in a VSTi window.

It doesn't work.

All I get is a video with the image frozen... no movements.

So I tried just the Console view, while the song was playing.

It just captures a video of the Console view frozen in time.

I'm going to look for something else...

Okay... That didn't take long.

I have found something called Debut by NCH Software (registered in the USA and Australia).

They have a free version and a premium version which costs about $30.

It works, although I'm no expert on this kind of software, but it recorded both the VSTi window and the Console view just fine.

It does not, however, record audio played by my ASIO device, but I'm not bothered about that. I'm going to use a video editing package to splice the audio and video together.

The same company has a video editing package called VideoPad. It does not appear to be free and is currently priced at around $40, and I've only just noticed that there is a deal on until the end of May, so once that runs out the cost will rise considerably. I'll probably give this a miss because there appear to be plenty of open source video editors out there...

You can splice it, and I've done that, I was just looking for solutions that are less effort :). I have a video editor, Vegas 13 Pro, so no issues, it just takes a bit more effort to manually sync up the separate audio and video.

I would love something that could do both, I have occasionally thought about making some tutorials mostly for BFD2 and BFD3 but have never been able to record the sound directly from sonar. I can use an external mic and record my voice along with the sounds from sonar but the quality is never as good and of course using the same speaker source creates feedback.

There are programs that do both the motion screen capture and voice, but they don't use ASIO for the audio. All use windows type drivers. Voicemeeter is a great way to get ASIO into the mix, literally.

Although, if you're not actually monitoring It may not be an issue using WDM drivers.

Since I just went through this yesterday...

The only way I could get a screen capture tool to work with audio was to route an extra set of outputs from my audio interface back into the mic inputs of the interface. This worked well for me.

In my case, I also wanted to add voice commentary, so I imported the video captured by (whatever tool, there are many of them) and added an audio track with my voice.

Next time, I am going to try Voicemeeter to record the commentary at the same time. Then the trick will be to align the audio commentary with the video.

Sycraft,

Still going with your original good advice.

Vegas and sync. Have done this also for some years now and get the quality end point needed quickly. Just takes a few trials to visually and soundwise get into the mode of being able to sync files. First time took about a half hour of confusion and frustration wandering away from the overlap. After a dozen projects later, can zero in and sync in about a minute. Was a learning process to know what I was seeing for and listening for.

Mainly ignorant out here in the bush, so if there really is a screen capture allowing ASIO integration of Sonar into capture, would appreciate the recommendation. Til then, my best efforts are with film and sync. Limiting factors are the resolution of the filming and skills of the filmer. Audio pristine presentation is a no brainer once the crystal mic in the camera is replaced.
