As most of you have probably used FL studio and to me it is super easy to use to make beats. However i have been trying to make instrumentals with sonar. In FL studio you can save a pattern and place it wherever you like. In sonar im using AD2 for my drums, but how do i save a pattern and make drops etc... i seem to only be able to play one pattern the whole time. If i try deleting certain drums or adding on certain parts it adds it to the whole thing. I see the "SAVE pattern" spot but how do i apply different drum sequences at different parts without creating a whole new AD2  instrument track.

The most effective way is to copy the MIDI you have chosen for your Groove onto the track in the sequence that you want the song to be...
i.e. when you find a groove that "works" copy (drag & drop) that MIDI onto the track and repeat for the duration of the song, and edit where you want your "drops" and spaces and etc. to be...

I see what your saying. Problem is i cant create another "groove" without altering them all. How would i create another groove without it being linked to the rest of the drum track.

You'd have to "select" the portion of the MIDI to change and delete that section
where you want the "groove" to change and then add the "new" groove to just
that section...do this as many times as you want the groove to change...
that will create the song with the "feel" that you want...then, on playback, you'll
be hearing the "entire" song with both (or however many) groove changes the song
has.

Found step sequencer too fiddly, basic and it has it's issues. It needs to be dumped and rewritten from scratch. Geist or Maschine plugs the gap although it costs $$.

Are you saying you want to create a drum/percussion track that uses different drum kits at different places in the piece?

If so, I don't think you can use MIDI loops on a single MIDI track, because, even after you figure out how to assemble a coherent track, all the loops will still reference the same Addictive Drums kit.

In that case you'd have to use the Addictive Drums Audio Recorder to build your track from wav clips (not MIDI). Good luck with that.

Geist goes on sale off an on for $99, but not checked in a while. As far as Step Sequencer functions it is significantly easier to use/modify than the method you are using. It is also a sampler/slicer (among several other things), so the demo is worth taking a look at for reference. For EDM type work it has 8 audio engines with 16 pads each.

Masching seems to be its hardware counterpart.
