Free bassist Andy Fraser has passed away this morning after years of battling cancer and AIDS. He was 62.

After all his health problems lets hope is All Right Now.
I never saw Free but I did see him in Sharks the underrated band he formed with Chris Spedding after leaving Free

RIP, Andy, you have left a lasting legacy

Morning, sad morning. Great songwriter and bass player. Free were a touchstone when I first started in a band, and 'Walk in My Shadow' was the first song I ever played to an audience

Sad news. What an awesome bassist he was with such a unique and punchy style. "Mr. Big" still rocks hard mostly due to Andy's incredible bass (ok Kossoff was no slouch). Free was such a great band that came together for way too short a time - when Paul Kossoff passed in the late 70's there was no chance for a full reunion. As talented as the individual members all were - they never again matched the unique (for the time) sound that Free achieved.Bad Company was a polished and blander pop version of the original IMO.
RIP Andy.

I fell in love with the fire & Water album and played it repeatedly for about a year, so much so I had to buy another copy!

The closest I ever heard Paul Rodgers come to former Free glories was in 1996 when he toured with Geoff Whitehorn on guitar, Jaz Lochrie on bass and Jimmy Copley on drums - that was an incredible band, and they did the Free back catalogue full justice.

We listened to "Free At Last" a couple of nights ago. Free was the ultimate three piece R&R band. Well, four if you count Paul. Kirke is probably my favorite drummer. I love those slow beats and Kossoff is an influence for sure.
So long Andy..
