  • Who Asked for a Fiddle Tune?

Here's a tune I wrote for a dear friend and fellow fiddler, Melanie Altman-Holder. I had produced her debut CD and did all the backup instruments on it. Anyway, this is my tribute to a great young fiddle player. I started the tune off with one fiddle, then added a second in unison, then the two were joined by a third playing harmony. I did all the background instruments and drums on this one too so please go easy one me...I'm just a mere hack trying to get by.

The Band19
This is the Fiddle I grew up listening to and enjoying. It has a grass flavor? But not really? It's more of a Scottish Highland thing? (the percussion, could be clogs)

This is the music of my ancestors... And it speaks to me as well. Fine job..

I listened several times and enjoyed each more than the first. Thank you.

Your guitar work, and other things I can at least understand and comprehend. Pieces like this just make me sit back and listen with an almost pained expression? Trying to hear and then understand what it is you're doing.

I would rather just enjoy it? And please don't get me wrong, I do enjoy it so. But I have one of those minds? I need to understand how it works... And 99% of the time, I understand how it works on the first blush. It's the 1%... Where most of your music dwells...

I REALLY enjoyed the Christmas tune that came afterward even better. That was really amazing.

The Maillard Reaction

It made me want to dance in a figure eight pattern.

The tonality of the layers is fantastic. I can hear each string contributing to the sweetness of the whole.

Wow.

Thanks for sharing.

I love your Fiddletunes Scotty! I wish I could play like that - on any instrument! I can barely whistle like that!!

Well done, sounds great! My hat is off, got grogg in hand, it's weekend!! I'm heading to the barn dance to swing the little ladies around!

Thanks for sharing, well done!

Edit to add - As soon as I clicked "post" I realized it's only thursday.... Well, tomorrow I'll dance then!

Robby,
This tune boasts the Ottowa Valley fiddle style. This style is used widely across Canada and New England. It is great for step dancing. Some day I'll show you how I do it.

Mike,
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed it. Don't get too dizzy doing those figure eights!

ProjectM,
Thank you! I wish you loads of fun at the barn dance!

Wow!  Great one, Mister Scotty.

I like your "stop rhythm" at about the 01:22 mark.  The entire tune is very entertaining!  Thanks for sharing it with us.

Best,

Wow! Thank you for your comments, Mr. Larry!
