It is strange. I have never been embarrassed by posting music, art, writings - I suspect I did not really care if anybody thought they were good or not. But I am embarrassed posting this. I guess I care a bit more.

Ok here it is. I first listned to the music and watch the video and I couldnt really figure out what they have in common. Than I read about an other video that you had to this tune. Ok I think the music stands for it self it is very good and I think this second video didnt add anything at all but it didnt disturb either.

I am just embarrassing myself.

I thought that's what this forum was for. No?

I've proved that > 49K times IIRC

Shad, I've seen both videos, and you can and should be proud of both.  What a luxury to be able to edit and do what you want to either.  I think you're growing by leaps and bounds.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I will admit I am a bit confused by a few of the responses. Do you mean you liked the last song vid I did (Snow Day - with the song Dragonfly), or the first version of this vid? The reason I ask is there were no sounds in the first that were not in this (the only sounds added to either were traffic noise at the very beginning). I did cut out the first walking scene as it was kind of pointless and seemed more like a commercial than music vid start up.

If Snow Day, then I think I understand what might be missing, and will confess I had more than one internal debate about it already. I thought about keeping some of the sounds of traffic, the train and so on (I actually have some interesting recordings from the shoot). I also debated adding some of the voice from the "news reports" shown when the TV shots are on.

John mentioned one thing about it that might be right and that I gave too much information. Perhaps I need to reduce the number of TV scenes?

James - I completely agree with the simplicty statement. I should not have doubted that. I regret not staying true to myself in this.  I should have listened to Robby. He tried to tell me, but I failed to hear. I think you may be right in that the last one was far more affective (where as this is more effective). Self doubt is a terrible thing. I really do not like it.

Robby - I should have listened. (thanks for watching)

I like the music. There could be alterations to the continuo though. After a while, it gets boring. IMO, subtle chnages through chords would keep the interest going.

I don't like the video.

Great bit of writing! Thanks for sharing!

Hey - you shouldn’t  feel anything negative related to making this. You’re not “talking about” making a video, you’re doing it. All responses from forum members are subjective (as is this) and I would guess all designed to be helpful. I’ve seen both vids, not really sure which I preferred more - it’s such a dark (emotionally) video that I can’t say I enjoyed them - more like I found them interesting on some level.  If I had to pick, I’d go with the first simply because it was so vague I became more invested in it by projecting my own interpretation of the story line.  Again, the music seems to fit both in that it is a dark little piece.

Hey Foxwolfen

I do video editing for a living and I'm also extending my creativity to music composition.  These days, as a musician you have to be so many things.  The writer, the musician, the engineer, the marketer, the distributor, the video editor, director etc, etc.  People are very quick to critisize if one of those elements is not quite right and it's no wonder juggling all these things can get you down, confused and frustrated.  I struggle with this myself.  At the end of the day you love and want to make music.  If it feels right, it is right - never second guess what other people might think as this dilutes your initial creative spark and you end up pleasing no one - worst of all not yourself.

I've seen the video and heard the music for the first time and I really enjoyed it - they are defiantely complementary and you can be vey proud of this work.

Eko - If you could not figure that out, then I have made a mistake somewhere. I wonder if the answer lay within Manny's response. Thank you for watching.

Manny - Thank you. That is very valuable feedback. I think I know where I went wrong with this version, and where I went right with the first (which was intended to be so open ended the viewer could "insert own story here", much as you describe). Jules made a good point elsewhere that I need to just be true to my own vision, then let it go.

Robert - Thanks for the kind words and feedback about the song. I am sure Blipp will be interested in them. I regret you did not enjoy the video, but just saying you did not like does not tell me anything about why. I genuinely want to know what you did not like. I cannot improve without that information. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to look. That is always appreciated.

Thanks Dan, and welcome to the forums. I appreciate the boost. I have much to learn, but you are right: at the end of the day I love what I do.

Regards
Shad
