Not bad. Retro, but not bad. One thing I believe might improve the mix would be an instance of TP Basslane on the master bus. Just whack it on there with the default settings. The bass sounds a little smeared off center to me - TP Basslane does a great job of solidifying the bottom end.

As it should be. I think what is important here is to not relive the past, but look forward. If Pete wants to participate here (emphasis on participate) then he is welcome AFAIAC. But, he is not welcome (AFAIAC) if he continues to lash out unnecessarily. This is why I raised an eyebrow when Frank took offence to my telling Pete to go away - I do not want people around me who are negative to a fault. Unlike Bill, all is not forgiven with me. Nothing is reset. I keep a wary eye. But the door is open (for me at least). Come and try to be part of this or please... stay away.

I think people forget the whole point of music like this. It's perfect for the meat markets where guy rub their hard ons on gals that are receptive. Plain and simple. They don't care about, "where's the melody." All they care about is, "where's the beef."

I don't like it but it sounds good.

Honestly, I do not see what any of you see as compelling about this track. From the Bell Biv Devoe sample of "Poison" to the cornball scratching, nothing about it strikes me as a listener as original, fresh, different or interesting. Simply a bunch of beats loops strung together. Nothing interesting from the mix style. Nothing interesting from a rhythmic point of view.

And I am not saying this as a dig to PP (though it is entirely well-deserved if I wanted to).

Sounds like something anyone with some samples can put together.

James,

I believe EVERYTHING cannot be exceptional, fresh, different or interesting else how would we judge/grade? A bell curve must exist in any art form, IMHO. This forum needs entries like this and mine so that rest of you guys and gals can really stand out.

Just my $0.02US.

James, I think you're mostly correct.  However, due to some of Pete's past critiques, I suspect that this isn't the best he can do.  He may be gaming us to gauge our reactions.  I, for one, don't really care.  He's part of our forum whether you take him seriously or not.  Anyone who participates in this forum better have a thick skin or slow burning point.

Pete is surely teasing and this is not a real effort on his part. IMHO Pete, I think it's best to show by example. You can become respectable if you put away that knife you, intentionally or not, stick in on your criticisms. Good day.
