Mr. Pistol... Of course, I was just kidding you with my earlier comment... and I suspect you're a kidder too... I must say, I do enjoy reading many of your comments... I sometimes find them funny, refreshing, and insightful, I don't care for any hateful, or hurtful stuff, but then, I haven't seen any of that... but then again, what may not hurt me, may hurt another...
I for one, would would be very interested in hearing a selection from your "usual songs"...

your words Ed, not mine... what's wrong Ed, do you need a hug..?

Can we do that..? I knew it was common practice to edit out sections of quotes... but adding your own thoughts & words, seems unethical at best, and possibly a TOS violation, not unlike a forum member regestering under multiple user names...

but hey, it's all in fun, right..? no agendas here..?

Sorry Frank,

I thought I was in the Coffee House. It's de-rigor(mortis) there.

I dunno Lynn...do you really think it's a necessity? I mean, being realistic in this...

You comment on just about every song here. You've never been out of line to anyone even if they posted something that wasn't very good. Sometimes I wish you'd be a little more tough on a few people..lol...but it's all good. :) You've made suggestions and offered advice when you felt the need, and for the most part, other than a few guys, those are the types of responses I see on the forum by the majority. That's how it SHOULD be in my opinion. So you're a great example of good critiques.

With that said, there shouldn't be a need to have thick skin. Even if a big mouth like me posts a comment, I NEVER get harsh on anyone. It's rare, other than when someone may deserve it. Like Pete (to me) deserves the exact smack-down James gave him. I too was astonished that everyone was praising him for this after how he's treated others. That said, if the tune was collosal, even though I don't think too much of the guy, I'd praise him to myself without telling him simply because he's not a very nice person to anyone on here. My belief is, Pete is one of us posing as a smart alec using a different name.

But all things considered, I don't think anyone needs to hear harsh critiques from anyone really. It helps no one to lash out and say mean things to a person. Like there are certain guys on here I won't go into detail with. I know they are hobby guys and really aren't trying to be great engineers. In other situations, I know people welcome the novels I may post about their production in hopes of helping them.

There was one guy on here that really had a tude thinking his material was all that. It's fine when we believe in ourselves, but this one individual was talking like he was higher than the rest of us...and his material sounded like it was 1000 steps below us. So yeah, I ripped into the dude. It got on my nerves...what can I say? LOL! To me, someone like that needs that sort of treatment...especially when they bash on others like they are gifted and don't deliver the goods themselves.

So thick skin.....nah, we shouldn't need it for here. But in the big leagues, yeah....different ball game. When you have arm chair wannabe music writers that cut their hair and had to give up on music to find a real job hating themselves for doing so, it makes them cranky and they review music with a chip on their shoulder. All the while, wishing it was them that was releasing music instead. They are so harsh it makes you wonder if they even listened to your album...now there, you need thick skin. But here...I sure don't believe anyone should have to. But that's just my opinion. :)

Lynn
Danny, you read my mind and posted a more complete version of what I was thinking.  I agree with you, especially about the speculation that Pete is a pseudonym for someone else here.  As for the thick skin; there are many here with paper egos, who are easily offended by the most innocuous critique and either don't get it or go away hurt or mad.  It shouldn't be that way, but it is what it is.  The X2 forum is a case in point.

Yes, pros should be able to handle criticism with dignity and grace, but they don't always do.  Amateurs (like myself) are the ones we're trying to reach and  teach.  I was just hoping by my comments to find a more civil tone than what the OP sometimes dishes out.  As you can tell by all the comments here that PP has struck a raw nerve with several people; some of whom are so good that they shouldn't be bothered by anything he says.  But, the points you make are entirely valid and relevant.  Nuff said.
