there are many here with paper egos, who are easily offended by the most innocuous critique and either don't get it or go away hurt or mad.  It shouldn't be that way, but it is what it is.  The X2 forum is a case in point.

Yes, pros should be able to handle criticism with dignity and grace, but they don't always do.  Amateurs (like myself) are the ones we're trying to reach and  teach.  I was just hoping by my comments to find a more civil tone than what the OP sometimes dishes out.  As you can tell by all the comments here that PP has struck a raw nerve with several people; some of whom are so good that they shouldn't be bothered by anything he says.

Well said Lynn... I agree... people are funny...

I can certainly not defend Pete's behavior, he was mine and many of the GT users shadow for years here giving constant reminders of our suckage. I don't for a minute believe all of Pete's recent nasty critiques were honest.
I'm sorry if my honest evaluation has offended anyone but after listening again. I guess I still like it. Retro sounding...well so am I, I like retro.  Needs work, that I would agree with but if Rap were intended to be in there, wouldn't you want the rap artist to do his part before it got too busy? That's how I've worked it with the few Christian HH guys I've made some beats for at work.

I made the pledge several years ago that if PP ever posted a song I would be honest. I don't think acting like a PP in the songs forum would be the right thing for me to do just because he does. I use to really let his behavior affect my mood..I'm not going there anymore. Shad has a great point and I'm going with his idea with some revisions..I've had my weapon drawn for 6 years. I'm tired of this war. I'm giving up and praying for the day the occupation ends or he finally learns to play nice.

Danny makes a very good point.

In my first few mixes I had thin skin for sure. I remember "arguing" with Beagle extensively.

With time I've grown to accept (99.9785% of the time) at face value as "opinion". Danny has the remaining .0215% reserved for "fact".

What I tend to do is consider that if 2 or 3 (or more) say essentially the same thing, it is probably something worthwhile considering while weighing all the other comments in too.

Can I still misread something and be offended? Heck YEAH!!!! But I do try and think before I act and do the best I can to NOT reply through the eyes (and ears) of hurt and anger.

James,

I believe EVERYTHING cannot be exceptional, fresh, different or interesting else how would we judge/grade? A bell curve must exist in any art form, IMHO. This forum needs entries like this and mine so that rest of you guys and gals can really stand out.

Just my $0.02US.

True enough. But that doesn't then allow me to call it crap?

Grant, I surely did not intend to besmirch anyone's opinion of this track...just an expression of astonishment at the utter blandness of it getting such praise, especially to a guy who deserved a ton of junk thrown his way. Almost like folks are bending over backwards as a pointed difference to PP's usual slogging.

Danny, you read my mind and posted a more complete version of what I was thinking.  YAs you can tell by all the comments here that PP has struck a raw nerve with several people; some of whom are so good that they shouldn't be bothered by anything he says.
TBH, I really don't think PP has ever really torn into my tunes. However, I am really ticked off at how insulting he has been to some of my forum friends here.

I appreciate Pistol's posts. Not his music, if it is his music (so far).
Sort of another texture to the forum.

I can certainly understand and respect you and Danny's frustration even though I haven't seen many of his newer posts. I have a real good idea of the content
In a way a think I share a bit of responsibility for what he's become. I guess I helped train the varmint and have received and delivered more broadsides than any naval fleet in history. As far as a thick skin I bet you could stick darts in him by now and he'll like it.
Like in Star Trek, it feeds off of negative vibes. Not going there no mo :)

>When you have arm chair wannabe music writers that cut their hair and had to give up on music to find a real job hating themselves for doing so, it makes them cranky and they review music with a chip on their shoulder. All the while, wishing it was them that was releasing music instead.

I feel so... so... EXPOSED at the moment.

Hope no one see through me now.
