Thanks everyone ... Youre all so nice .. I like this forum ..

foxwolfen .. wow .. its like we both had the same eye openers ... My expectations definitely shifted after my first wee tune ...     youre right about the friends who are not creative in that way .. they dont seem to know what to say to me ... fine ... i just adjusted my expectations there ..
like you say about a couple of friendships cooling ..   I was gutted at the lack of response from my musician friends .. they completely dingied me .. lol .. and when i think back to all the nice things i said about their musical talents and the feed back on their music .. and the other favours i did for them because i could ... pfft ...    my reality has shifted now somewhat .... But its all good .. im very glad for the experience ...

Anyway .. am rambling ...   in short .. i agree with all you said . perfect .. thanks a lot man ..

God Bless you too B...
I loved the music & video...

Please tell me about the graphics... how did you acomplish that?
I'm serious... I'd like to know a cheap & easy way of capturing and publishing computer generated graphics that interact with my music...
Very cool...

hi notnat .. pleased to meet you sir .. thanks ..

The video was surprisingly simple ... If you have ever used winamp .. it comes bundled with a visualisation plug in called 'milkdrop' .. although you could use any other vis plug-in for winamp, from their website ...

once winamp vis plug in is running ... i ran a small piece of software called fraps .. it captured what winamp was displaying very easily ... seems to be easier to use than i expected ..

one i captured the 'video' .. i used a basic video editor (avs4you) .. to piece it together with the original wav file, (rather than use the replayed audio captured captured by fraps) ...

i set the output setting to a HD resolution (1280x720) ... cos im sure when played at HD on YouTube, that YT doesnt compress the audio so much .. Good to have the HD resolution for that reason

If youre interested, and want more info .. please ask .. am glad to share ..

there may be an easier way to achieve this ... but i always loved milkdrop .. so didnt really look for another solution ..

Thank you Brian...
now you are the teacher... and I am the pupil...

I appreciate that, and will try it out soon... I do have a youtube account, but I've only produced a few slideshows using MS MovieMaker live... pretty rudimental stuff... I would like to learn more...

i may have given information overload, and made that sound more difficult than it is ...

if i could break it down to 2 parts ...

Have a look at winamp ... run one of the visualisation plug-ins to your music ..  thats the easy part .. and free

if you like what you see and want to make it into a video ... its slightly more involved, to start out ..... But easy once you get going ..

You need to get some 'capture' software ... so it can record what youre 'seeing' in real time ..   I cannot say offhand, what capture software you should use ... As i imagine most, like fraps,  want you to pay for them, else theyll limit the video length and put a watermark on the videos ....

Perhaps someone on here can suggest free capture software ..

You should have a look at winamps milkdrop or the likes to start you off ...

We all have to begin somewhere. And most everyone here remembers our first attempts at recording. It says a lot about you, that you would post your song without knowing what sort of reception it would get. That takes courage, considering that this is the internet. And yeah...as someone above mentioned, I don't often tell my family or friends that I have written a new song because they are mostly not very supportive or appreciative of the music, and the time and effort and emotion that went into writing and recording it. I can do without the discouraging comments and looks.

On the other hand.....

There are some extremely talented people here and they are willing to share their expertise and knowledge with anyone willing to ask. People who will help and will encourage you and teach you things that would take years to figure out on your own....

So, jump in, write, post and learn.

Welcome

thanks notnat .. means a lot :)

guitarhacker ...
I had no idea soo many of you shared the same disappointing expectations for support and feedback as me from friends and family ... I guess its kinda why i ended up here .. hoping someone would say something nice about my wee tune before i give in completely   :D   .. i didnt expect to end up in a place where the rest of you were here for the same reason ...  lol .. excellent
Since reading around .. ive come across another couple of folk, who say they also come here cos they cant rely on friends or family ...   I really had no idea anyone other than me felt this way ... i suddenly feel a bit less alone in that aspect  :D ...

Thanks again guys ...   youve been brill ...

Hi Brian and welcome to the forum.
I started off in the same way you did, very nervous posting my first tune here. What followed was something I was not expecting, strong support from a great bunch of pros, and I remember each and every one of them who helped me back then. The respect I have for each of them is unmatched.

I feel without that support,  I too would have quit a long time ago, but I keep plugging away trying to get to the level of the guys on here. (far way for me to go, but I'll keep trying)

I liked your little wee tune too, and for someone who is 'not a musician' your potential is immense. Stick at it, and I'm sure you will enjoy the ride.

Best
Mark.

Thanks for the strong words of encouragement Mark ..
I intend to explore my creativity more, thanks to the support you guys have shown me in this thread .. without which, i do think my heart would still be thru the floor ...   I really appreciate it ...   Just waiting on another flash of inspiration .. while messing about with all these gadgets in sonar that i dont have a clue what they do yet ..

I love the words you wrote about yourself, in your youtube chanel ... haa .. made me laugh .. briliant ..
That 'impact' footage is quite powerful eh ... as i was watching it .. it kinda reminded me of a strange thought i get when listening to Simon & garfunkels 'El condor pasa' ...  When the song plays, i imagine the irony of looking out the window, and seeing a huge meteor or something come into our sky, careering towards me .. and all i can do is wait motionless as i continue to listen to 'yes i would, if i only could' ... The irony of having to listen to that wee happy song while watching my imminent doom hurl towards me kinda humours me in some sick way ..

Thats exactly the effect i get when watching teh impact, and listening to your happy music ... i wasnt sure if should say that or not, cos i dont want to sound offensive, and i do like it ... But then i see you wrote 'your goal is to create musical ironies' ... If this is what you meant by musical ironies .. then you should know it worked perfectly for me
if not .. then please ignore those last 2 rambling paragraphs   ;)
