Hello everyone,

inspired by Camille Saint-Saëns Danse Macabre we are proud to present you our first Solo Strings library focusing on expressive performances.

Macabre Solo Strings aren't the usual sampled Solo Strings. They were crafted with one particular sound in our minds, which they deliver better than any other Solo String library out there. Macabre excels at slow emotional Solo String lines and on top of that you don't even need tons of programming to get stunning results with them.

Just sit down and play. The samples themselves contain a huge amount of natural expressiveness, which makes it easier than ever to write realistic sounding Solo String lines.

I like it.

Drat. I think I've used up all the coins under my sofa cushion. It would be nice to have.

Sounds very good- full & round.
Also like the dark vibe.

I skipped over this one initially, having been put off by the word "macabre". I assumed it was yet another spooky/sci-fi/horror library.

But that's not the case at all. It's a very expressive solo violin/viola/cello library that would suit many genres and styles. I can see myself using this as the lead voice over more conventional string libraries, for chamber music or as backing for a pop ballad.

I know it's part of it's style but my only peeve is I wish the vibrato wasn't fixed.
Any chance of future updates with different articulations?
Still it sounds great.

Lack of vibrato controls is my most common complaint about sample libraries in general, be they violins or guitars or kotos.

Everybody uses Kontakt's built-in pitch modulation to implement vibrato because it's too hard to do with with samples. Fortunately, this makes it fairly easy to modify the vibrato yourself - as long as the vendor lets you in there to do it. Strezov is one of the vendors that do let you modify anything you want regarding effects, modulation, mapping or waveforms. Some vendors (but not Strezov) even leave the scripting open so you can muck about with that if you're so inclined.

I know. I have the libs starting with Storm but user scripting will not change the vibrato which are part of the samples themselves.

That aspect would need to be redone. I wouldn't fuss with the scripting anyway. That's part of it's unique sound & charm  to get the sound right out of the box.
I only wish there way different vibratos available when this was put together. Lots of work involved though.

Sounds great but too limited.

after listening to all the examples multiple times and watching the video I don't think this library is for me.

Hello everyone,

thanks a lot for your interest. I will try to explain Macabre and its concept a bit further:

Most Solo String libraries out there offer tons of control options (vibrato, timbre change, overhaul volume control) and claim to be able to perform everything the user wants. As we all know, that's a lie. Samples will never be able to perform something the way a human does, so why releasing yet another bread and butter solo strings library with exactly the same claim? MACABRE is all about playability and ease of use. Every time a composition cries for some slow emotional solo strings I simply reach out to Macabre and that's it. NO NEED to programm my stuff for hours to get it sound right. Just sit down and play.

Yes Macabre is limited. It is strongly limited. But for what it can do (slow emotional, lyrical string melodies and phrases) there's nothing out there which can compete with it. For every control we would give you we would loose sound quality and you loose time, because you would have to USE the control to get to the sound you want to achieve. If you need a a Solo String library which makes it dead easy to get stunning results out of it when writing for what it was designed for (and we actually tell you at what our product excels) buy it and I guarantee you will be happy. Limitation has always been the key to great music. You don't want the tools to distract you. The tools are here to quickly do what you want them to do.

Besides there is one more important aspect to Macabre: It's range. Yes it's limited again, but why? Because every note was played on the highest available string of each instrument. The sound this approach gives you is just to die for and is something you won't find in any other sample library out there at the moment.

However we of course plan to further develop the concept of MACABRE and as the next month will show, we always release huge updates for free for our products just as an example: There will be a huge Rhodope update with new true legato samples as well as a massive StormChoir2 update, which will put the product to another level.

cheers,
Robin.
