Sharke, i was djing during that time in that region so i know excactly what you are talking about. The one thing i really enjoyed was how peaceful it was. I don't think i ever had to deal with even one fight at those events. I enjoyed the creativity of the places we held events. We once held one in a closed shopping mall. The place was still wired for power and the sound does not travel outside so we had main space an specialty music inside of various stores. I think one of my faves was right under a traffic bridge. The highway traffic totally masked the music from a distance so we were hiding in plain sight.

We had a few great ones in forests too. The police would invariably break them up but tbh that was all part of the fun and they were usually good natured about it. Best one I ever went to was in an abandoned warehouse in 1994. It seemed like some kind of wonderland at the start of the night with all the fresh happy people, strobes and UV lights. Then when the sun came up you realized you were covered from head to toe in grime and sitting in a puddle of gasoline, lol. Happy times.

Skunk is something different all together, it is a hybrid of sativa and indica and it REALLY has a strong smell.

you know why its called skunk?

I was driving the back way to Gelsies on I17 in Jersey for a session when I ran over a skunk in my Malibu.
didn`t think much of it till I opened the garage next day and the smell was awesome!
FWIW- "Hudson County Skunk" was apparently named because of the prevalence of skunks in that beautiful valley.
I always wondered why there were crates of tomato juice and vinegar everywhere in the convenience stores-its in case you get sprayed because, believe me ,it takes months to get rid of,.

Personally,i think it`s sad and disturbing that they have upped the THC and virtually eliminated the CBN`s-replacing the natural anti-psychotics with extra potency.
all about the money  `spose but times are a changing and its good to know in the near future we will no longer be crinimals for using the  cannabis receptors God gave us .
in the studio-I`ll take a pothead over a twitcher anyday.
cheers

I have shot a few videos for medical dispensaries and fortunately some focus more on potential medical uses rather than just pushing the barrier for how high people can get. The last place i filmed seemed like it had a mostly cancer patient clientele and I did not encounter a single recreational user the entire time I was there.

hi dub,

thanks for that-the only news footage of medical dispensaries we get here shows obviously healthy people choosing the type of bud they want with girl scouts encouraged to sell cookies outside-no kidding-watch American Weed or similar.
cheers

Sadly those places exist too. Ot just confirms that just about anything in life can be used for good, bad and grey area.

Being a regular weed smoker (with only a rare drink on special occasions... no coffee either), the only personality type I have trouble relating to are those who preach that weed is bad, or at least look down on it, while also swigging a beer or sipping some wine. And along that vien, I'm sure dispensaries will one day be as acceptable as liquor stores are today... Salvation Army out front at Christmas 'n all that.

My main problem with weed (and the reason why I stopped smoking it) is that it is without a doubt habit forming. Not in a physical addiction kind of way, but psychologically to the point where life seems kind of dull and tedious when you don't have any. It got where I only wanted to listen to music (or eat) when I was stoned, and I don't like that at all.

Hmmmm..maybe we should steer this convo to include music. Are there any people of the school of thought  that drugs helps them create? I'm not. The only thing that woukd get finished if i went into the  studio on weed is lots of Doritos. Yet, I know guys who will get high and the will write and record amazing songs.

Been smoking on and off for many years and at this point, thankfully, I just don't get the munchies anymore. /yay. Pretty soon I expect I'll become like Fry when he had his 100th coffee. Time will slow... I'll become one with the universe (already there really)... heaven will become manifest upon Earth... but that's a whole 'nother story. ;)

As for creating... based on personal experience, I'd say weed is great for the creative part (thinking)... but not so good for the more technical parts (doing). Repetitive tasks suck unless they are hidden as something else (gaming in general is a good example of this). Repetitive tasks in something like Sonar might be insanely boring... but sparkin' a fatty while jammin' beforehand and searching for new ideas or inspiration... may be bang on for some.

And there's also no rules about how much ya smoke. Having a small hoot from a pipe and then going to work in Sonar may be doable for most... but perhaps not after smokin' a whole rocket. :)

In terms of recreational use, whatever people want to do...

As for the rest, I don't believe that something that slows you down, messes up your perceptions and affects your intellect negatively is of any benefit in terms of creativity.

IMO, absorbing mind-altering substances to access creative potential is like cheating oneself out of an opportunity to know oneself, to access and express one's full potential and to be self-reliant.

Whenever I think of music,  I can't help but draw parallels w/ Bruce Lee's teachings in the Tao of Jeet Kune Do - it's about reaching your full potential and expressing yourself, facing challenges and seeing them as opportunities to improve yourself.
