I was fired.  Yup..... I had a decent job as a supervisor in a manufacturing facility with 45 people under my supervision and a nice paycheck and benefits. Came into work one day for our annual staff "reviews" and walked out 2 minutes later totally fired and escorted off the property. I went home and applied for a few jobs. Both companies wanted me to come to work for them. I didn't answer either immediately pondering the future of working for another group of idiots. So I decided to to start my own business so the only idiot I could blame when things went wrong would be me.  I considered firing myself a few times but somehow didn't.

Oh, yeah... my employer pays me to develop their customer portal on the web using WAMP and an Oracle database.
 
I got into it in 1978 before there was such a thing as a need for computer science degree. I just looked over the shoulders of our programmers and one day said "I can do that".
