Just had some really sad news about one of our oldest clients, Gabriel. He was a beautiful Irish wolfhound, as big as a small pony, and the owner just told me he died tonight. I gave his walker the day off a couple of weeks ago and got to walk him one last time (although I didn't know it then), so glad I did that. He has a sister who'll be very upset. They're such majestic dogs and it was such a great feeling to walk them up and down 3rd Avenue. I guess after more than 10 years in the business I'm used to dogs dying but this guy was a real special one. Goodbye bud!

Here's another of him, deep in thought....he looks quite melancholy but in truth I had been trying to get his attention to make him look into the camera and he gave me a look like "WHAT?"

RIP Gabriel,

Really sad when love ones pass away.... life is too darn short.

Not so long ago my wife and I had to say our goodbye's to Bud (our cat), he was nearly 18 years old. We miss him very much, he had an awesome life, playful, gentle, affectionate and amazingly smart. Whenever our cat said, 'CacK', it meant that he's happy, other times he would give us the 'Paw' (birdie) cheerfully, playfully of course. Oh well, he will never be forgotten.

Lovely dogs the Irish wolfhound, there are a couple near me that I meet quite regularly, mum and daughters always up for a fuss and a lean.

Sorry to hear you lost a friend James.

That's a shame. Love Irish Wolfhounds. Had a lurcher called Muffin a few years back, she was like a Wolfhound 'Mini-Me'.

Thanks everyone. He truly was one in a million. He had some anxiety problems which stemmed from an incident with a crowd of school kids some years ago and was nervous walking outside for years (he'd always try and do 180 degree turns when you were walking him which made him tricky to handle sometimes) but then his little sis came to live with him and his anxiety had improved tenfold since then. Having said that, they don't have a very long lifespan compared to other dogs but he still went way too early.
