Purple Rhapsody

Hi,

On February 10th 2013 we move into the Chinese Year of the Snake and a FB group I'm a member of are doing a challenge to symbolise this in music.

In Chinese tradition this is a year for wisdom, learning, pondering, introspection and planning. Good taste prevails in culture, and it is a year of technological and scientific innovation.

It can also be a year of political upheaval and scandal as secrets are uncovered. Previous Snake Years included the Russian Revolution, the dismantling of the Berlin Wall, and the 9/11 Terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

I've gone for a dramatic start, then a more traditional section, followed by a "not very oriental" section commemorating 9/11 which, as mentioned above, happened in a "Year of the Snake". Then it all culminates in a big noise.. ;-)

Hope you enjoy it!

Terry, I think you succeeded on all levels with this.  You're a brilliant composer, and this piece is a joy to hear.  Congrats, and happy new year.

Excellent Terry!

I expecially love the solo piano part and when the strings come in with it.

Great all the way through.

Incredible! Wow!  I loved the piano part at 3:50, but all of it is just incredible.

Hi,

First off, as always I sincerely appreciate everyone that takes the time to listen, whether or not they leave a comment.

And as for - Lynn, Mark, Shad, Robert, and Janet - huge thanks for listening and for such positive comments.

Does anyone have any crits on the mix/production? There are a couple of places I know I'm not happy with it and although it was for an online challenge it's likely be on my next album so I'd like to know if there's anything obvious I should target when doing the final mixing and mastering.

Thanks!

Cheers,
Terry.

This is cracking stuff Terry, really imaginative and creative. I think it works in all respects. Very cinematic too, something I strive for. Love the orchestral segue into the solo piano, great dynamics.
