Back in the old days when I used to rent videos from Blockbuster, they asked me for a password when I set up an account. I wanted to use assword but, rather than lowering the tone I said it was password without the 'p'.
Next time they asked me for it, I just said 'assword' and the assistant frowned at her screen for a long time. She eventually said she didn't understand and turned the monitor round to show me that my password was actually written as 'password without the p'.
Oh how I laughed.
But not very much.
