How many of you have that under your DAW/Desk?
 
I have hardwood floors, so it's a must for me in stopping from rolling all over the place with my guitar plugged in. It WAS a lot of fun, until I got unplugged.

Rug on carpet.
 
Mostly because I spend so much time at my DAW that it started to take a toll on that eggshell carpet.

One of the first things we intend to do after we buy this house is to remove every bit of carpet and replace it w/ (probably) floating hardwood. I'll probably pick the closest to black for the studio and buy a nice rug for the work area.

Rain, you'd probably like the color of my floors.....dark chocolate brown (very dark).....like below.
 
I actually like this color as some of my furniture is very close to it, and it stands out much better when a lighter colored rug is underneath.
 

My cave is carpeted, yeah I know, I know, tis a luxury for a Neanderthal, but at least I get free home delivery of the finest Becon pizza and beer. 
 
Seriously, I much prefer wood flooring (exactly what Rain's said), I may do that in the near future, a matter of lifting the carpet up and refinishing the floors boards, creaks and all.

I don't wear one.
