Hopefully. Having plugged into the little Marshall practice amp recently, I once again realized that that's my sound. I dig other amps, but a Marshall is home to me.

As far as I can tell, my best bet would be a JCM-800 - it seems to cover as much ground as I need - not too modern, not too retro, yet capable of delivering practically every type of tone I use.

For those of you who've kept up with the more current offerings, what would you recommend as an equivalent of/closest thing to a JCM-800 in the current line-up? I'm looking for a head + 4x12 cab config...

Checking tem out on eBay, those JCM-800 aren't that expensive - not as I thought they'd be. This COULD be an option. But a brand new equivalent would be nice too.

How much wattage are you looking for? These little 1w heads are awfully nice......JVM 1H.

The reason I'm looking at modern ones is that you don't have to push them to get in that ballpark. Ideally, I want something that can do both - drive at modest settings but loud enough to play small venues live.

I just sold my V4.  I've had JCM800 run away from it in shame.

Metropolous (the most faithfull and accurate sounding clone but super expensive)
Ceriatone (the best bang for the buck)
Reinhardt
Germino
Fargen Olde 800
Top Hat Emplexador
or.........
just get a marshall 2204!!

Avatar makes great cabinets, i have a vintage 1x12..
if it were me, i'd buy (2) 2x12's, one open back, one closed back.
but if it's just got to be a 4x12, avatar is great...
the best THREE cabs i've ever heard in 4x12 mode, is:
1. Bogner
2. Orange
3. Mesa
