Fourth and last of our current crop of tracks, recorded live in the studio. Again this is just the trio; Guitar bass and drums with some doubling of the guitar parts afterwards.

As this one is a bit different, any comments or opinions are more than welcome. It may be a bit of a Marmite track.

Well I sure won't call it Jazz. It's an eastern influenced rock tune.
Cool guitar tone is that an E bow??

Yeh, E bow on a strat though a delay pedal. And I call it jazz 'cos its his jazz trio, but hard to catagorize. Interesting what other people hear it as. The other three numbers are on here and are all a bit different, but overall probably fall into a jazz catagory.

personally I wouldn't call it jazz either.  middle eastern influenced western rock is more what I'd call it.

it's a good instrumental, tho, I think there's too much high end on the drums and not enough low end.  the entire mix could use a little more bottom to it as well.

nice work, tho.

It's fun to play those Eastern scales and melodies, isn't it?  I agree that it's not quite jazz, but definitely improvisational.  A bit more low end would be welcome, but it's kind of like how much milk to put in the gravy.  I like this piece, and it was performed well.

Make a jazz noise here... or there... and it's jazz.

Jazzrock.

Interesting and cool sounding.

Thanks for your comments guys. I am interested in you comments about there being too much high end on the drums and needing a bit more low end in the mix.

I use Tonebooster's Reelbus in my mixes and it has a number of models built in. I usually use the "Professional 30IPS" setting on the master bus. However, it has a "Japanese '75 - 7.5IPS" setting which is much brighter which i use on certain sub mixes, but wouldnt usually use on the master.

Listening to the four jazz tracks i found them a little 'dark' and thought they needed some more 'air'. So I changed to the Japanese model on the master bus and thought it really improved them.

The other three tracks on here are still with the "Pro" setting and only this one was uploaded after i made the changes. Below is a link to the earlier "Pro" setting version for comparison. I will also add  the later "Jap" setting version of Equinox to that post. I would be very interested to hear what you think if the top and bottom on that.

Interesting stuff. I listened to the other track and the same comments apply.

Judging by these two tracks, it's not jazz. More progressive rock. Really cool stuff though.

Well done!!!
