I wanted to try some Waves plugins.  The weekend sales were hard to resist.  There were recent deals on the Renaissance Channel, the Renaissance Compressor and the V-Comp, from Waves and JRRShop.
 
I like the Renaissance Compressor with it's fine controls.  Didn't get into the V-Comp much.
 
The Channel is neat too, though I didn't delve in beyond the presets.
 
Next I'm thinking about the Renaissance DeEsser when/if it goes on sale.
 
Anyone else experimenting with Waves?

Seriously, they're robust, high-quality tools that have been used to mix innumerable commercial records.  Picking the ones that interest you when they're on sale is an inexpensive way to get into them.  The Ren plugs are classics and still hold their own against newer, flashier products.  And try that V-Comp on a few things like drums (in parallel, too).  It may surprise you. 
 
I just looked at my latest project, and I'm using these Waves plugins:  C1, L1, Doubler, MondoMod, MaxxBass, RenBass, Vocal Rider, DeBreath, Kramer PIE, TrueVerb, SuperTap, H-Delay, and REDD.  I've used others on other songs.  I like Waves plugs because they get the job done without a fuss and I never have to worry about them.  They're like old reliable friends.  Anyway, have fun!

Yes, I use Waves almost exclusively, along with Izotope stuff (Ozone, Alloy and Nectar), got heaps of other stuff, Ijust find with the Waves stuff, I can get what I want quick and easily, much more so than any of the other stuff I have/have had. I had FF total and Melda Total, but couldn't stomach looking at the bland nausea inducing GUI's, (plus like I said, I found I could get what I wanted much easier and quicker with Waves stuff) but good plug's no doubt, just not for me, I gave those away to a mate who wanted them, also got all the T Racks stuff but don't use it anymore, heaps of other bits and pieces some of which I use every now and then. But my Waves stuff I use all the time, and will continue to do so until if and when I find something that I like better.
 
Try things out, demo stuff, If you like it, use it, don't worry to much about others opinions, yours is the only one that really counts. Peoples opinions, including our own, are made from our experiences, our biases etc, and everyone's journey is different. You can pick up a lot of good stuff by reading threads about this or that, stuff you may not have otherwise been aware of, you may also come across stuff you wished you hadn't heard of. Just try it out, if you like it all well and good, if not, no harm done.
 
And as Eddie says above, have fun, that's the main thing.

I forgot about Maxx Bass.  That was the first Waves plugin I got earlier this month.  Up to four and counting.

I would just wait for Renn Maxx to go on sale since you seem to like the Renn Series.
It goes on sale quite often...and you'll spend only a few dollars more to get all the Renn
plugins.  They are also included in the bundles as well (Silver, Gold, etc...) which go on
sale all the time and are great value...

Waves stuff is mostly good, and the regular sales make quite a lot of it pretty affordable. I've built up a collection based on doing specific things, mostly effects, I find useful and don't already have a suitable version of in Sonar or Logic rather than the bundles.

I'll check it out.  Thanks.  I almost got the Silver bundle.  It's on sale now for $199.00, but I wasn't sure I'd use all of those plugins.  Between the stock Sonar plugins and the ProChannel modules I bought, plus T-Racks Classic, Ozone 5, Alloy 2, and Nectar 2...danger!  I also got the +10db plugins, and IK's Bus Compressor when it was on sale.
 
On my next project I'm going to make it a point to use the Sonitus suite:)

It might be getting a bit old now, but some of the sonitus stuff is still very good. I get quite a lot of use out of both the delay and the wah in particular, and the uncoloured eq is useful when I need a second eq on a track for surgical frequency adjusting where a display of the eq curve is very useful.

I'm working on a song now, that I've been fighting as far as getting the individual tracks to gel together.  I started over today with no processing only to basically arrive at that same point.  I tried various compressors along the way on the tracks and the music bus, none seemed to work, or I didn't know how to make them work perhaps:)  Finally, I read the manual for the V-Comp and tried it on the Mix bus and bam!  It took a few minutes to dial in the settings, but once I did it added a pleasing color and glued the tracks together nicely:)
