I am currently sipping a pint of Killkenny Red. If Scotland can beat New Zealand tonight we could be celebrating a "new world order" in world cricket.

Of course Australia is going to win the cup but apart from England, I am rooting for Ireland, UAE (my second home) and Afghanistan, they need a break.

well done the Irish :) if they can put a bit of pressure on NZ it could be a close match too.

One amazing thing to ponder is that the next World Cup is going to have the top ten teams and not 14, and it is entirely possible there will not be a place for the Windies!

I think SA and Aus are equal favourites but I actually think that if NZ play Australia in the final then NZ can handle them.

Except that instead of a scary pre-match dance, the Irish simply down some whiskey!

Here is a news report / opinion on the UAEs game against Zimbabwe. I think it sad with 10 teams in the next world cup teams like the UAE will be shut out.  http://www.thenational.ae/sport/cricket/uaes-gripping-cricket-world-cup-defeat-to-zimbabwe-highlights-iccs-mistake#page1

Good for the fighting Irish!! Even during the last World Cup, they showed streaks of brilliance, but couldn't maintain any consistency.
Hopefully, this win will boost their confidence in taking it to the next level.

Interestingly, the Irish have been successful in chasing (and getting) 300+ runs in the past World Cups.

Successful 300 chases in World Cups

  • Ireland 329 for 7 v England in 2011
  • Sri Lanka 313 for 7 v Zimbabwe in 1992
  • Ireland 307 for 4 v Netherlands in 2011
  • Ireland 307 for 6 v West Indies in 2015
  • England 301 for 9 v West Indies in 2007
