Bapu:

I've been reading your posts for over a year and I never noticed where you are located.

I jog at the Sherman Oaks park (5 times a week - if I'm not injured) and we have a great group of guys (industry pros) that run/workout.
(Hazeltine and Magnolia) about 8am to 9am;
I don't know if you jog but you can join us for the run or after the run;
Tony Shepperd is a regular and once a month we have a 'tech' breakfast;

these guys all use Pro Tools - so I've learned to just keep my mouth shut :)

you would be more than welcome;

I promise to step off my soap box

Bapu loves to twiddle his jog wheel.

Anything to do with Am notes in the bass and he's yer man.

Somewhat closer to the truth.

"What do you mean? Creative SB is ****, get a decent interface! And for that simple editing, you might want to RTFM"
(Well i may have overdone the posts, but i had quite the same "hurt" value when i read it)

yes; that is my point; you were 'hurt' by some of the responses you received when you first came on this forum.
Even though those responses were meant to help, by people with good intentions, you were still 'hurt' by some of the responders.

Now, put yourself in Clarissa's place. The OP was a bit negative concerning a few forum members but also praiseworthy of other forum members; No specific names were ever mentioned. In my opinion the words in the OP were sincere.

Now a few forum members (Danny and Humble Noise come to mind, there were others too) said some nice things;
great. If this ended on the second page. All is well with the world.

but then the 'snide' remarks start; One, two at first and then three or four pages of jokes, insults, funny remarks.

Now, most of these comments were not malicious. I understand that, but once the forum regulars start to chime in, it seems the flood gates open.

High posters have a big impact on what direction these posts take.

There is a 'buddy' system here; and that's ok, but when you use this 'buddy system' to hurt people (even though you may not mean to do so) there is something wrong with that.

There's nothing wrong with humor; There are a dozen threads everyday you can banter at will.

but this thread was a serious attempt to say something important.
and after a nice start it turned into page after page after page of laughing and making fun of the OP.

When you are the 'new kid on the block' you might not understand why the crowd is laughing. (even innocent laughter can seem sinister)

In the scheme of things, the behaviour on the Sonar forum doesn't amount to very much, but if we can't get along on this forum it doesn't say too much for where we are heading as a society.

Everyone that posts has a responsibility to be civil, courteous and respectful;  I hope we all agree on that, and when and if we do, we all have to practice it.

I understand that clearly. But bear in mind:

The topic was not regarding Sonar X1 tech, so it will ALWAYS end up here, so they started joking about it anyway, and anything that will be put or is here will always get unserious. Yes it was really nice, the serious ones read it and kept the message in the heart, the usuals also did, but on the other hand - that is not the first post of the kind the they have read, the hell, the old and the not-so-new-ones all know how **** happens upstairs, so i understand why these guys just joked on it. And they weren't mocking the OP.

It's sort of extinguishing the fire with candies and lollipops instead of encouraging it with gas. Let's say it's cowardly, or it does not help the cause of Carissa, which is to eliminate the forum discrimination, but our eyes are already open, we're fed up, and we all know that no matter how patriotic the act is, it will just get trashed by the admins and be sent here.

To Charles

Don't you think he meant it in a strategic way?

When new people let's say, post a question here. They get both help and mocking (Assuming). Well atleast they got help.

If they see Carissa's post first, they would just assume that the forum offers no help and is pure crap.

It's a double edged blade, even for Cakewalk. It's like seeing one user say that their community is crap, it also affects Cakewalk and their product one way or another.

So both being the bully and the reporter-who-shouts-it-out-loud gives a bad rep to Cakewalk, although the reporter's action is moral and is an eye opener. The thing is, does moral eye-opening even match potential customers to Cakewalk in their list of priorities? I don't think so.

(Well this is IF that's how Craig put it. If not then i don't even bother discussing the dispute between the two of you. And by the way. Honestly, Craig is not the vocal type and is not really like the gang of jokers, he is even more of the serious type who is very straightforward and tackless (no offense Craig). IMO he's like a milder form of CJay with a sense of humor, and does not have a spell-checker.)

No Jon, I'm done.

but if you're ever in Los Angeles look me up.
I'd be happy to buy you a beer; (you too Mike)

Hey Tom. I see a lot of these threads out here that get somewhat heated up and there's always posters that make there points whether it be in an insulting manner or a civil manner. Sometimes posters just go away after unloading and I think it's very admirable when it ends up with a comment like above.

It's like this:

The OP (whether she's a stunningly attractive young lady from Sweden, or some 300# trucker named Frank is irrelevant) made some excellent points.  Points that have been made before - by many of us here. I agree with many of them, though I'm not sure I would have taken the same tone.

I have, on occasion, taken umbrage at some twerp's undesirable attitude and spoken up... hasn't made a bit of difference. After a time, I wised up and realized that it's better to simply not feed the trolls.  Keeps my BP in a healthier range.

If the situation looks like one where the possibility of helping positive change occur exists, I'll chime in - often via PM instead of dragging it across the open forum(s).

I think I'm like many here: if you can't change it, you may as well laugh about it.  Makes the day go better.

And, yes, if you happen to be coming through Grand Forks, I'd be pleased to buy you breakfast or something. There's some good becan up in these parts.
