Hi-

I couldn't find a thread here about this, so:
http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/lesley-gore-its-my-party-singer-dead-at-68-20150216

I grew up with her songs, but haven't listened to any of her recent stuff.  Her brother Michael wrote the Oscar-winning "Fame". I didn't even know she released an album in 2005.

Quincy Jones produced "It's My Party" and "You Don't Own Me" (ahead of its time!). It's funny(?) how some people's passing have an effect, even if you haven't thought about them in years.

I remember seeing her on TV all the time back in the mid 60's. I thought she had way more hits than that. I loved her voice.

She had several hits. "It's My Party"; "Judy's Turn to Cry"; "You Don't Own Me"
And who could forget "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows"?

"Judy's Turn to Cry" was just cashing in on "It's My Party", but "You Don't Own Me" was a BIG SONG. "Sunshine..." was ear candy, but hey, it was the 60s.

'Cousin Brucie', 60's music DJ on XM/Sirius radio, yesterday replayed an older interview with Ms. Gore. What a very nice lady. She talked about "You Don't Own Me" and her take on the lyrics was from a total humanist viewpoint, as opposed to just being a feminist attitude. I like that. (In fact, the song was written by two males.)

RIP.

I learned and danced the Watusi to  "It's My Party"; "Judy's Turn to Cry" for many hours. I was young then. I still do the Watusi! I don't even need no sticking music to Watusi nowadays! Now that I think about it I twitch a lot too

My neighbor Alan had a big crush on her in 1964.
RIP.
