Southern California residents are all weather wimps. That's why they live there.
I have an electric furnace for a large-ish (3,600 sq. ft.) house. The house was built in 1965, when hydroelectric power was ridiculously cheap (before we started selling it to California). Today, it would cost me dearly to keep the place warm, so I don't. Sweaters and electric blankets are far cheaper.
This is made possible by the Pacific Ocean. Looking at a map, one might logically assume that Seattle is a very cold place. Seattle is further north than 72% of Canada's population. Nearly all of Canada's major cities are further south than Washington State's northern border, including the nearest big city, Vancouver. Even frigid Montreal is south of us. So is Minneapolis and Moscow.
But the forecast for today is close to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Thanks to the Pacific Ocean. And probably a little help from global warming.
