Seattle is further north than 72% of Canada's population. Nearly all of Canada's major cities are further south than Washington State's northern border, including the nearest big city, Vancouver. Even frigid Montreal is south of us. So is Minneapolis and Moscow.

Normally I'd agree with you bit, but this time I think maybe yer holdin' the map upside down?! Canada from Ontario East is South of you. But Vancouver?! No think so! Hint: Vancouver WA isn't Vancouver BC.

Location isn't the only factor for cold temps. The jet stream, which quite often goes above Seattle and dips into the Lakes and below, as the East Coast, and even the deep South is experiencing this winter, plays a bigger role.

Rain:
I see friends back in Quebec complaining about the cold daily. With reason.
Windchill of -33C this morning.

It doesn't make much sense for the majority of the world to use the Celsius scale and only the United States and it's territories to use the Fahrenheit scale.

I don't think it's asking too much for the rest of the world to change.    :)

I am still adapting to the Fahrenheit scale. It takes time. But I know my "too hot" zone. :P

The metric system was not entirely in place when I grew up, so there are things which I'm actually more comfortable with the old way. My generation still uses the imperial system for height and weight.

Mostly. Liquids like fuel, we're used to metric.

For distance, I'm still better with metric.

I guess it's a case of how it affects your every day life - when all the cars and road signs and gas station display metric, you integrate it.

US tried in the 1980s to go metric but it was going to be too costly and difficult to rewrite every book, change every road sign, replace every thermometer, and recondition every brain for millions of set-in-their-ways die-hard americans to make the switch.

Then again, it makes no sense for most of the world to drive on the right side of the road and Britain on the wrong left.

I'm perfectly happy with both C and F these days.

I'm a 100% Florida boy.  Hot weather is uncomfortable but cold weather is painful.  You can have the cold.  If it's below 70 degrees my heater's coming on.

Well the way I look at it is, I can always wrap up warm enough to be comfortable outside in the cold. I cannot always dress down enough to be comfortable outside in the heat.

I'm a complete weather wuss. I should live in Hawaii. I hate both extreme heat AND cold. And we get a bit of both here in Dixie...mostly heat in the summer. But the last few years we're getting some really cold weather (for us). For instance today we were all trapped inside by last nights ice storm...luckily we still have power but it's about 12 degrees now. And that's waaaaay below my wussie threshold!

The Canary Islands are very nice if you're a weather wuss. It seems to stay moderately warm all year round without going too much either way. I lived in Tenerife for a while and apart from the hoards of drunken Brits it was quite lovely.

My mistake. I was thinking of Victoria (Vancouver Island) when I typed "Vancouver." British Columbia does indeed extend south of Washington State's northern border. But you're right: Vancouver is definitely north of the line.

Trivia: if the originally-proposed boundary had been adopted back in the day, both Vancouvers would have been in Washington State. If the British counter-proposal had been accepted, Seattle would today be part of British Columbia. The compromise gave Canada all of Vancouver Island even though its southern end is below the 49th parallel.

Oddly, Canada did not get one little peninsula that crosses the border, resulting in a U.S. town that you cannot drive to without first going into Canada. Pot is legal in this town, but there is no way to legally transport it there (the water route is forbidden by the feds).
