Again, guys... please don't take this out on John. This is not his fault...

With all due respect Beep, this is all about John.

Whether or not the thread should have been locked is one thing. But to me, what's more important here is that we now have a situation whereby a host, who virtually never sets foot in here, now has the authority to moderate a community he knows nothing about, and furthermore, is on record publicly announcing his distain for.

That is not a healthy situation, and to be honest, it stinks.

Like I said in post #4, I'd love to know how our 'own' three hosts stand on this. How on earth can they be happy with this preposterous and plainly laughable state of affairs.

I know for a fact that when we've discussed the possibility of user-moderators before, John's name came up again and again as the one man nobody seemed in favour of. If I remember correctly, at least one of our three 'CH hosts' actually said something along the lines that they would leave the forums if John was ever made a mod. And now we have the bizarre situation that this same person has not only not left the forum, that person is actually happily working alongside John.

Well, all I can say is that if the rest of you (apart from those who support me on this) are happy to be pushed around and have your words and actions censored by this man, then more fool you all. You'll end up with the forum you deserve.

I think the intent was to have him dealing mostly with the main Sonar forum. He is quite good at getting n00bs up and running and feeling welcome. He was one of the first people to greet me when I stumbled in here freaking out about how "MY THING!!! IT NO WERK!! HALP?!!". He got me sorted quite quickly and without making me feel like an idgit (and I really REALLY was an idgit at that point... now I'm just a gidget). In other sections it's obvious he's a controversial character (and I won't speculate as to why... that was all before my time) but he seems liked in the Sonar forum. I really don't get the impression he's out to get anybody either. I mean, if he were I'd imagine it would be more apparent by now. As to what was said by the other hosts... I have no frame of reference for that so I honestly have no idea what's up there.

Anyway... I've said it before. They should have stuck with the original plan of having certain people dealing with certain sections of the site. I don't know why they scrapped that idea.

That's all I'll say on that because I know it's a hot button issue. Just thought maybe as someone who hangs out "upstairs" regularly I'd offer up an alternate perspective. I don't really expect to change any minds.

Cheers.

Yes... you are correct. Something is wrong and it could be fixed but it probably wont be.
It didn't seem like a good idea at the time so here we are.

Maybe we need a new sub forum, the Bier Haus.
Like I said, just put my junk where it goes.

Are we seriously going to chase behind every post John moderates on a power abuse witch hunt?  Yes, there was probably no need to lock a thread that had basically worked itself out, but there was even less need to make a minor case like this be a referendum on whether John has the right to moderate in CH. Cakewalk evidently gave him the green light, so that answers itself. To continuously chase down his posts that you are not even directly involved in to keep repeating the same mantra of "forum hosts are evil" that you have been chanting since before they were made active seems like white whale chasing.  We get it.  you don't like the idea of forum hosts and you like John even less. Duly noted.  You say it's not personal, but it sounds highly personal and a case of serious sour grapes.

Agree...I use Open Office here...much better.

Sorry Beep...this, IMHO, IS John's fault. Just too fast and too arbitrary on pulling the trigger. I really wish he would weigh in here with his reasoning. I'm willing to hear his argument.

I have no problem with John as a host moderating here or anywhere.

And if he, or any host, occasionally errs on the side of excessive caution it's no big deal. It's not like any discussions here are of such terrible importance that an occasional thread getting locked matters.

But there's nothing wrong with pointing out that a hosts action might occasionally be a bit overzealous for the circumstances at hand. I don't expect the hosts to always be just exactly perfect and as long as they are willing to work with us I just don't see a problem.

Actually I think "you are collective silliness" is a pretty good description of us.
