  • Paul Stanley: “Beck should’ve kicked Kanye right in the nuts" (p.3)

Indeed. Personally I'd celebrate those backroom boys and gals and the only reason I mentioned Winehouse was because there was some flavor to it in comparison to the rest (and perhaps I have a soft spot for the the truly tragic/tortured artist).

Then again those behind the scenes musicians do have a pretty decent gig that I think I'd love. You don't get paid nearly as much but you get paid reasonably well AND you don't have to act the fool or be humiliated publicly on a regular basis just to remain relevant.

I am literally nobody in the grand scheme of things but was gaining a bit of notoriety in some very obscure underground circles. After a lifetime of chasing it turns out I freaking HATED it.

In some ways I guess these poptarts earn their money just tolerating the sheer abusive and intrusion thrust on them by the general public. Takes a certain personality type to handle that. Just like politicians. The people that can deal with it aren't the best suited to the job but who in their right mind would want that job in the first place?

There is a certain irony to Kanye continuously being able to generate more buzz from being an ass than the artist he interupted. I'm amazed the same trick worked twice. I'm even more amazed that the supplemental attention whoring of people like Stanley worked again too. It seems like every time Kanye acts like...well, Kanye..some old fart makes some claim he would kick his ass, knowing full well the likelihood  of a physical confrontation of Kanye and a senior citizen is unlikely. Kizz is never going to be in competition with Kanye or anyone Kanye associates with. It's nice grandstanding and it riles up baby boomers who hate Kanye, but in the end he is doing a variation of what Kanye is doing; using another artist to promote himself.

Agreed 100% on the principle.

One thing is entirely different though - as far as I can tell, Paul Stanley usually respects his peers, whether its his own heroes like Steve Marriott, Led Zeppelin, his contemporaries or younger artists, even those in other genres, like Lady Gaga or Katy Perry. Stanley is much more inclined to singing praises than ****ing.

For all their flaws, the way KISS treated their opening acts throughout their career is a testimony to that respect of other artists.

That other douche bag has no respect for anyone whatsoever, and that's what people react to.

As a Kiss fan in my younger years I had much more respect for Gene than Paul.

As time passes (and Gene just won't STFU) I gotta say... Paul seems like a solid dude. Much more respect for the Paul than the supposed God of Thunder.

K West is still a tool though.

Can not think of what use this tool could be put use for though, it is a tough one.

Apparently, he's not the sharpest tool in the shed.

I think Beyonce should be the one kicking Kanye in the nuts since she is going to get just as much critiscism. She didn't invent the pop music formula. She just happened to utilize it better than most. I can't  say I like Beyonce's album, but I have nothing against it either. Just not my thing. I still listen to a lot of Motown stuff, but Motown as we knew is impossible today. Artists are sometimes dropped even after releasing platinum selling albums. Pop artists who want to be "different" better do it within the parameters of the marketing machine. Beck does not sell anywhere near the numbers he sold when he was seen as a quirky, novelty pop act. The moment Beyonce wants to be an "artist" (and she has enough money to do so), she will likely have kiss big number sales goodbye.

I grew up a fan of Ace. Paul was probably my least favorite of the band... As I grew older, my perspective on things changed quite a bit. Stanley's biography is a interesting reading. And, well, he wrote God of Thunder, anyway.

As dumb as him and his wife come off, I have to wonder if they have just brilliantly found a way to take advantage of society loving to hate people. Kind of like a pair of attention whoring savantes who have monetized saying stupid things. Kanye just realeased absolutely hideous shoes and all this extra publicity is not hurting.

lol... shows what I know. I didn't even know hter was a book.

I just liked Kiss Alive II and used to listen to it nightly when I was kid (like 12 yo) as I wandered off to dreamland.

Ace was my true hero of the band back then too. I was also massively into to Twisted Sister and Eddie "Fingers" Ojeda was the cat that inspired me to harass my parents into buying me an electric guitar (much to their chagrin).

So yeah, after everything I've done over the years musically (punk, thrash, harcore, folk, prog, alterna weirdness, etc) it's pretty darn funny looking back to think it was friggen' Eddie Ojeda that lit the fuse.

I wanna ROCK!

He might benefit from the incident.  I'm now interested in hearing what Beck did to get the award.  If it had been for that jerk, Kanye, I wouldn't have heard about him.  (I don't watch award shows.)
