  • Apparently I just discovered the Problems Forum and the Forums Discussion Forum...

And I have lost my mind.

First, I reported a problem on the problem forum. But, no, the Problem Reports forum is NOT where you report problems. So it got moved. To the Sonar forum. Which is fine. But stupid. I had already posted the same on that forum and so CakeAlex was having a hard time both moving and combining my posts ON HIS PHONE. Sorry, Alex...really. I certainly don't want to cause you the inconvenience of having to take the time out of whatever you might be doing and, you know, make you think you have to immediately take action and rectify some stupid thing I've done at a moments notice...on your phone...to insure the integrity of the Cakewalk forum hierarchy. But, I mean, really. Then I posted in the Sonar forum why not change the name of the Problem Reports forum to something else since you can't, apparently, post a problem report there. This, of course, was immediately moved to the Forum Discussion forum which, until that moment, I did not know even existed. And Alex, gawd bless him, actually agreed with me that the name should be changed. Thanks again Alex! But then I had to wonder why on gawd's green earth we needed a Forum Discussion forum. Isn't that redundant? Aren't all forums "forum discussions"?

What, really, is going on? I mean I did have my usual Martini tonight and am enjoying a fine Zinfandel as we speak but I don't believe I've lost the ability to discern ****e from shinola.

If it is simply a joke, the irony is not lost on me. I actually could appreciate it. But I'm pretty sure it's just another step up Jackass Hill.

I sincerely mean no disrespect or ill will to anyone...but it is my firm belief that the "Cakewalk Forum Hosts" program must come to an end and all those who've been bestowed that title must be stripped of it...yes, even you Bapsi...although I know you are as big a dimbulb as me and would never do any real harm to anyone.

I'm cruel, after all. But fair.

You posted problem reports forum (off topic) and I moved it into the Sonar forums.
Later on I went out and glanced on my cellphone that you had created another more or less identical thread in the Sonar forums (might have been helpful not to). FYI merging threads is a tricky process on a cellphone so I left a note on it hoping another host will handle it. It is also to help other posters so they don't end up posting on duplicate threads. So I really don't see why that's a crime in your book.

As far as you wanting to remove the forum discussion forums I think it has been answered pretty comprehensively, I think you might have created your own paradox:

In regards to this thread:

I completely agreed with you and your response was that I should be sacked. Gee thanks..
You then come running here and have a go at me... Wonderful thank you..

Anyway better get out the coffee house before you all pile on top of me, it is Friday night after all and beer is cheap...

Nite nite...

(Edit changed 'rename' to 'remove'... Typo).

Again, I've not one thing against you, ol pal. Except, perhaps, your alacrity and zeal...which are both otherwise admirable qualities. And I am NOT singling you out at all. I think EVERY new former forum user/member who is now a "host" should be sacked. Forthwith. It was, in my humble opinion, a monumentally asinine idea.

I still consider you both a forum asset and a respected friend. I hope you can understand this dichotomy.

Well I suspect neither of us want a slagging match. But please remember we may be forum hosts, but we are also human... And forum posters first. One day it would be nice not to have a whole load of negativity thown at us it doesn't make for happy days. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Well, sometimes we wish for too much. Apparently I'm guilty of such. Enjoy your day(s) as well, ol pal

So I think I understand now. The "Problem Reports" forum is to talk about things which are confirmed as bugs, whereas it was deemed that your post was a "getting things working" kind of post. So, might I speculate, if you had posted a set of reproducible conditions under which Melodyne crashed every time, it would then be officially a bug and thus suitable for the Problem Reports forum? I'm a little confused by that forum's description: "A place to document verified problem reports regarding the use of Cakewalk products." But what is meant by "verified" problems? Do they mean officially pre-verified as bugs somewhere else?

So then I looked at the "Feedback Loop Handbook" in the section titled "How to effectively use the Problem Report forum" and it says "Please note that this is a forum for reporting issues, and verifying that what you're experiencing is or is not a bug." This seems a little contradictory, no? The forum title says it's a place to document verified problems, and the handbook says it's a place to verify problems. Maybe this should be rewritten for the sake of consistency.

I think one of the biggest challenges in organizing a forum (and indeed anything) is how to properly categorize things. I run into this all the time when categorizing, for example, samples. Do I put these Abbey Road drums in a Drums folder, or a Native Instruments folder? I honestly can't decide for myself whether your post qualified as a bug report or a troubleshooting problem. I mean it could be a bug, right? Then again it could be a hardware issue, or some setting somewhere. If the handbook says that the Problem Report forum is for verifying that what you're experiencing is a bug, then maybe the correct course of action would have been to first verify that it's not a bug, and if not, move it to the Sonar forum for troubleshooting?

This is why I've always believed forums should be based around tags and filters instead of sub-forums. If every sub-forum title was a tag instead of a sub-forum, then you could successfully cover instances in which a post maybe belongs in one category and maybe belongs in another at the same time. I believe we've been over the subject of tags before though.

But....at this point I'm just confusing myself and should probably shut up. See, this is why I'd make a terrible forum host

Welcome to the new world 'ol pal. FYI in the forum discussion forum you're only allowed to say that you think it's great and how successful the new system is.

Totally made up fiction of course, as has just been demonstrated, but if it makes you feel better to say it... sure go ahead...
I'd rather be after bankers and politicians myself who get paid..
