So I
think I understand now. The "Problem Reports" forum is to talk about things which are confirmed as bugs, whereas it was deemed that your post was a "getting things working" kind of post. So, might I speculate, if you had posted a set of reproducible conditions under which Melodyne crashed every time, it would then be officially a bug and thus suitable for the Problem Reports forum? I'm a little confused by that forum's description: "
A place to document verified problem reports regarding the use of Cakewalk products." But what is meant by "verified" problems? Do they mean officially pre-verified as bugs somewhere else?
So then I looked at the "Feedback Loop Handbook" in the section titled "How to effectively use the Problem Report forum" and it says "Please note that this is a forum for reporting issues, and verifying that what you're experiencing is or is not a bug." This seems a little contradictory, no? The forum title says it's a place to document
verified problems, and the handbook says it's a place to
verify problems. Maybe this should be rewritten for the sake of consistency.
I think one of the biggest challenges in organizing a forum (and indeed anything) is how to properly categorize things. I run into this all the time when categorizing, for example, samples. Do I put these Abbey Road drums in a Drums folder, or a Native Instruments folder? I honestly can't decide for myself whether your post qualified as a bug report or a troubleshooting problem. I mean it
could be a bug, right? Then again it could be a hardware issue, or some setting somewhere. If the handbook says that the Problem Report forum is for verifying that what you're experiencing is a bug, then maybe the correct course of action would have been to first verify that it's not a bug, and if not, move it to the Sonar forum for troubleshooting?
This is why I've always believed forums should be based around tags and filters instead of sub-forums. If every sub-forum title was a tag instead of a sub-forum, then you could successfully cover instances in which a post maybe belongs in one category and maybe belongs in another at the same time. I believe we've been over the subject of tags before though.
But....at this point I'm just confusing myself and should probably shut up. See, this is why I'd make a terrible forum host
