Fluorescents, which most of us work under all day (unless you're lucky enough to have an outdoor job when it's -40), do the same thing. Only difference is you're not staring directly at them @ close range.
FWIW I do work outside for most of the day and no matter how cold it gets, I would rather be out there than stuck in an office. I think I'd be a wreck if I was sat in front of a screen all day and then sat in front of a DAW all evening. I don't like fluorescent lights at all, they absolutely give me a headache.
