Now pretend you just walked into a brick & mortar 'Cakewalk' store in place of a McDonalds. Part of the store has an integrated and open coffee shop with all the behaviour being discussed. What will be your impression of that store? It's users? It's hosts? Point being... 'whatever' their behavior in the coffee shop... it 'does' color the image/reputation of the company.
So if we then associate McDonalds with low end food... what should we then associate Cakewalk with then in this scenario... with its coffee shop?
If Cakewalk tolerated racism, sexism, homophobia and such, or if they had a bunch of Nazi organizing a rally and distributing flyers and recruiting, I'd see it as a disgrace for them.
A bunch of guys having fun but remaining respectful of each other? I personally wouldn't mind.
I've seen some of those folks contact me via private messages and show great deals of compassion - for me and for others - in tough times.
I've seen the Coffee House members mobilize and take action to find what had happened to a respected forum member missing in action. Ironically, if I remember correctly, Sharke was the one who found out where he lived and went to that fellows' place - only to find out that he was deceased.
Granted, silliness can be annoying, but I don't think it reflects badly on Cakewalk. Unless one's judging the book by its cover...
I agree with Steve that having subdivided forums would be the best option.
