Big thanks Shad, if what you are hearing is what I'm hearing. The bass guitar doesn't have any attack to it. I did what I could with CAL scripts and Franks MIDI plugs and also tried to add life with a transient shaper and compressor. Still not what I was looking for. Fortunate for me I'll be getting Bapu in a box classic rock addition soon for this and a few others.
 

I thought I was listening to Robin Trower.  I like this style of music very much, and this made my day!

Hey Grant. Sorry for not replying sooner, left on a short holiday. I agree the problems I am hearing are in the lower end of the spectrum. I took a listen to the other songs posted to see if it was something about this one song, or if present in the others, and sadly it seems present in the others too. It might well be your listening environment that is causing the problems. The first thing I would look at was the EQ you are using on bass and drums. Its seems that the levels and plot used are adding (or making apparent) harmonic overtones above the fundamental which is adding an odd sort of ring to the bass. Then as you mentioned, taking a second look at the compression for ADSR.

 Thanks again Shad, now that I'm certain that I will be replacing the bass file with a live track. I'm not planning on a remix until then.

I'm not familiar with the original, but i like this.

Excellent guitar playing and i like your tones.

The mix sounds good, but overall i kind of get the impression i'm listening to it from another room and it's lacking a bit of oomph and drive in the low registers. 

Lots of potential here once the mix is sorted out.
