There seems to be a REALLY strong aversion to registering...FWIW...

Quite strange...

i don't mind registering, but if there is no need to...

It does work without registering.  Just takes some patience

I ended up registering, but I got the download to work before registering.  Just saying it's not necessary is all.

BTW, the PanStation is pretty sweet.  Check it out while you're there.

Rough Rider free has been a go to comp for me for years. I was inspired enough to get the pro version, but was really more happy and at ease with the free plug. Use it before Heacase to get sustain and feedback that shouldn't be happening at room level volumes. Noticed that the combination of Rough Rider free into HeadCase cause the strings to resonate in your hands into semi feedback loops. Not natural in a good way.  Have found no other current software chain that will remotely achieve the effect. Any you guys got HeadCase, try it.

Downside to the free version is the makeup volume with extreme compression. Comes up short if you need the drive. My easy fix is inserting Sonalksis FreeG between Rough Rider and whatever downstream. Very simple clean, transparent gain control that all should have.

I use their Vapor chorus and Panstation all the time. I have passed by other comps I have to grab the Rough Rider freebie so often it has kind of irritated me.

Had the RR years ago, and lost it along the way somehow. Thanks for helping me rediscover it. It's killer on the right material. Makes a kick drum come to life.

Hah! Good thread Bit! I have used Rough Rider for ages and love how agressive it is! It's the only compressor I also use for creative purposes. The Nuke-preset is always fun!

But at some point I have bought the Pro version, but somehow forgotten all about ut until right this very moment So thanks for reminding me that I have a lisence for the souped up version of this great compressor!

One thing I always to is setting up a bus with Rough Rider insterted, set it to some extreme levels and have a send from the drum bus going into it - the entire kit - on full blast then adjust the level of the Rough Rider bus to taste. It does some really awesome things and works well on both acoustic and electric drums. It's also quite interesting to send the vocal bus into it when dealing with in-yer-face vocals. But now that I think about it, I will also try to do that on some tender singing to see what it can do.

Especially since I now remember I have the pro-version
