Ed what can I possibly say, no comment about vocals from me, Wookiee's no singy, overall the production sounds good here.

Thanks for sharing Ed

Hey! Look at that! Stereo! . I think this is a deceivingly difficult song to sing (as are a lot of Cash's songs - they seem simple till you try to sing them yourself). Kudos for the attempt. I might cut a bit of the low end from the vox, ED. Otherwise mix is not too bad at all.

I preferred the mono version :)

Nice one mate. I agree that this would have been better and easier to sing a couple of steps up.

Hi Ed

A while back I did a stint with a Johnny Cash tribute band, must've played this song 1000 times....

You have a very refreshing take on it. I liked the pedal steel, did you play it?
The vocals are...unique. And although very different, they fit the interpretation of the song, I think. The whole laid back vibe of it.

Nice work!

Thanks.

Knocked it out in less than four hours.

As stated in response to Beagle, it is BIAB for the pedal steel. BIAB has come a long way with the addition of RealTracks, which is actual players but "assembled" based on the tempo and chord changes. BIAB does not always get it right but when it does it can be  time saver. In this particular case it was a time saver as yesterday was last time I had before the new year to complete a song.

Good one Ed.  Nice track, and the pedal steel IS a really nice touch.  I agree with Daryl, et. al. that a step or two up may have made it easier to sing.

Thanks to all who listened and commented thus far.

For those that don't "get it", I was purposely *not* trying to sing the original verse melody. I decided to create my "take" on it. Could the chorus be better? Ya, I suppose so... however.... I only had a four hour window to create/record/mix and upload the whole song in and I (at least) accomplished that (albeit in mono the first time ).

I'm glad you got your quota in for the year :)  Fun version, I can't get over that pedal steel. Good job I enjoyed.

As I recall, the original version was mono, too.
