Really nice vocals Rich - I didn't know you could sing too

Wow Rich, very well done here brother! A little roomy on the drums in my opinion and would have liked to hear a little more movement on them instead of the steady beat. Some crashes/accentuations during instead of just the end would have added more realness. Subjective of course...but I'm a drummer, what can I say? LOL! :) But other than that, this was great and I totally enjoyed it. Really healthy and big sounding. Well done! :)

Thanks Danny!  I agree with you about the steady beat of the drums.  This awas a canned groove from EZDrummer.  When I was doing the remix that was the first this I noticed.  But then I got side tracked with my "lack" of familarity of X2.  Right now it's leaving me frustrated at times anyway, I left it as is.  I should fix it otherwise everytime I hear this tune I'll be kicking myself wondering why I never fixed it.

I always struggle with Bass and drums.  What exactly are you hearing that you are charcterizing as "Roomy"?  I know the kick isn't sounding richt to me and that's partly EQ and compression.

Thanks for the listen and the comments.

Hi Rich,

Uggh...I so feel your pain with the whole getting familiar with X2 deal. I was like that with X1 and let me tell you, it drove me so nuts, it took me nearly a year before I decided to commit to it. If X2 is your first X series...uggh, I can't fathom how confused one might be. LOL!

As for the roomy comment, what I meant was...the room effect of your drums seemed to be a bit more than I would have allowed. The drums sort of have that John Bonham type room sound which is cool of course, but I felt it was a tad too much as this can take away some impact. This may be why you are having issues with bass and drums. When you have a roomy (reverberated) drum kit, the "room" effect sort of acts like a resonator making your drums last longer than they should. This in turn can kill impact and even mess with your frequency decisions due to the extra resonation playing a role in the sound.

That's one thing about drum modules that drives me nuts. They sound sooo good with the room mics etc, but then when you try to mix them, it can be a nightmare especially when you are trying to create that great relationship with a bass guitar.

That said I don't think you had any of those issues and again, I sincerely wasn't trying to knock the fine job you did. I just notice that with a little less room sound on a drum kit, you get more snap and "impact" so to speak when they don't quite resonate as much.

Oh man, I feel you on the lack of fixing things.....I got so many tunes that ended up like that. I cringe when I hear them now and kick myself while saying "why didn't you just fix it?!" LOL! But honest man, this was great. Just passing on a little friendly advice for the future should you need it. :)

Daryl - Singing and playing at the same time is a lot easier than you think.

James - Thanks for stopping by.  I sincerly wish you and your family a Merry Christmas

Danny- I didn't take any of your comments personal.  As a matter of fact I found your comment honest and helpful.  I am very much a novice when it comes to mixing.  Thanks!

That's great Rich, as I'd never want to ever come off as a basher my friend. Well, I'd say you're far from a novice with the results you're getting...so don't ever sell yourself short. :) Glad you found it helpful...you're welcome, keep up the great work! :)

I always liked this one, Rich.  I'm glad you posted a song by my favorite band sung by my favorite sax player!  Merry Christmas.
