There's a whole lot of unhappy PT users out there right now...

As is the norm with all new software releases...

The problem is that, in this specific case, there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm to counterbalance.  The fact that there is basically nothing to get excited about doesn't help, I'm sure.

LOL

Seems even the guys at Pro Tools Expert can hardly even remain neutral...

Lifted from AVID's own forum: (http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=365942)

Russ Hughes:
"Bugger all (British for "nothing at all") I don't know. I've promised I won't Avid bash, but I'm finding it really hard not to say anything about this, because, let me just say it's the fastest version of Pro Tools I've ever un-installed from my machine in my life, it lasted less than an hour."

[Excerpts below condensed for clarity]

"It removed my Pro Tools 11. There's no track freeze. There's no collaboration. The store has the sum total of 1 plugin for sale. It is embarrassing, shameful, words fail me. If it was April the first, I'd understand. Don't waste your time, your money, your bandwidth, the **** of taking it off your machine and re-installing Pro Tools 11. I am speechless by this. I don't know what Avid wants us to say. Yeah. I don't want to say it. There is zero reason to update. It's a joke. Sorry. I don't even know if we should even bother."

Mike Thornton:
"I did assume the collaboration and track freeze would be there, that's incredibly disappointing that it's not there. That was the key feature. I have a perfectly working system, I'm carrying on with what I've got."

Well I received a "temp" license this morning...

Apparently my upgrade is "still in processing"...LOL

But, anyways, at least I'll be able to take a look....

Installed and working.  Minor appearance differences (Very minor).
Other then that....not much...but I don't think I'd dismiss it so
quickly...

Granted, Avid has most definitely "screwed the pooch" on the launch...
but it seems to be a viable offering, especially once they start getting
the updates out...(track freeze, etc...)

You have to start somewhere...so we'll see how all this "pans out" LOL

That's a concept I have to familiarize myself with I admit - a major upgrade which technically does nothing but set the table for some future upgrades.

It's almost as if they're asking you to pay again for the exact same software that you already own so that you eventually are eligible to some new features that may or may not be useful to you.

The whole thing is kind of backwards.

Yes, in a way...

Luckily for me, my upgrade was free...

AND you can still run 11 concurrently...you just have to reinstall it...
so it's not "gone"...which is a good thing...but it would have been nice
to have been given the option of keeping it during install...

Well it is now THURSDAY, and, from what I've read in the PT Forum,
no one that is entitled to the free upgrade has received it yet.

We have received 30 day "temp" licenses to run the software that appeared
in our accounts for about 2 hours and then disappeared again...but that's it...

This is not going to bode well for Avid...not at all....

If their goal is to make the old industry standard obsolete, they're doing an exceptional job.

2 weeks and still no license....Avid is HORRENDOUS...

They say

Well it takes time to process the upgrades....2 weeks?  Seriously?

That is completely unacceptable....sorry...I don't care what excuse
you use, unless your whole company went out of business...
which is becoming an increased likelihood daily....
