Kalle Rantaaho, are you saying that the free player works unrestricted with certain music libraries ?
I've always wondered about that …please clarify if you have the desire to do so ...

thank you guys ….

AFAIK Kontakt Player does not work unrestricted with certain libraries.  It will play some libraries however you will not be able to tweak the sounds like you can with the full version.  Thus you will not have total control over the sounds and sometimes that can make a big difference. Plus with the  full version all sounds available for Kontakt will play whereas there are a few sounds that will work with the player.

Check the differences out here: http://knowledge.timespac...ntakt-4-player-and-kon

Here is a comparison chart: http://www.native-instrum...akt-player-vs-kontakt/

I hope this helps.

Hi MarioD ,

thanks for the links and explanations  I kinda had some idea that that's whats going on….
my head is spinning trying to figure this whole thing out

I'm saying Kontakt Player is a free downloadable software (it's not the same as Kontakt), and there are libraries, free and commercial, that are compatible to it, and many commercial libraries include (or used to include?) Kontakt Player.

Kalle Rantaaho ,
Yeah , I got you …thanks , I do appreciate you trying to help me

I own only three Kontakt-licensed libraries (SampleLogic's Cinematic Guitars, Infinite Player, and the ancient Drumkit from Hell) because I resent the built-in license fee, which is like re-purchasing Kontakt each time.

But I have 800 GB of unlicensed libraries that all run on Kontakt 3.5 or Kontakt 4.2. I can modify them if I want, even combine them with other libraries or my own samples. And they were all less-expensive than their licensed equivalents, with no compromise in quality.

Wow , bitflipper you sure do have a lot of samples ……that is absolutely cool

if i had anywheres close to that many samples , i would probably go off to live in a secluded Island in the Pacific

your a cool person on this forum …nice rapping with you

I know this thread is old but for the money of buying Kontak 5 full version vs Komplete 10 was only a $100 difference, so I bought Komplete. Now I have a separate question does anyone know how to setup Kontak5 so that you can assign 1 instrument per track in Sonar?

If you load up an instrument in Kontakt you can choose its MIDI Channel. You'll see this near the top of the instrument's screen where it says "Midi Ch:" As you're loading the instruments they should automatically become assigned to [A] 1, [A] 2, [A] 3, in order. But if you ever need to change this you can just click the arrow and do so in the drop down box.

Let's say you want to load 16 different instruments in Kontakt and have each instruments assigned to its own track in Sonar. Creat 16 MIDI tracks in Sonar, then load your 16 instruments in Kontakt. Assign each Midi track's Midi channel to the corresponding Kontakt instrument's Midi channel. That's it. Now, when you click on your first Midi track in Sonar and play some keys on your controller, you'll get the sound of the instrument that is assigned to Ch. 1. Likewise for all the rest.

Semi-related: a neat little trick you can do if you want to experiment with controlling multiple instruments at once is assign more than one Kontakt instrument to the same Midi channel. Then you can play your keyboard and get the sounds of multiple instruments at once. This is good for when you want to write parts in unison for different instruments and want to hear how it sounds right away. When you're ready to record the takes I would recommend reassigning them to their own channels so that you can process them separately, though that's completely up to you depending on what you want to do.

Are you asking about discreet MIDI input tracks or output tracks where you'd have multiple mixer channels?  In the latter case, it's a little more involved.  I don't recall how this is done in SONAR, but in Cubase, it's a two-step process and probably similar to what's needed in SONAR.  In the Cubase equivalent of the synth rack, you must activate multiple outputs (that's the part I'm not sure how to tell you to do in SONAR).  But then in Kontakt, you click on the outputs button (near the top of the UI), and in the resultant display at the bottom of the UI, you assign each Kontakt channel to a DAW audio track.  Then you assign the respective Kontakt instruments in the multi to the desired Kontakt output.  Probably sounds more complicated than it really is.  Once you've done it a couple of times, it's second nature.

Kontakt goes on sale during Thanksgiving every year at 50% off.  I just picked it up last Thanksgiving and I'm loving it.  Now I get to buy those low cost sample libraries that only work with full Kontakt.

I got Kontakt 4 for $120 off KVR, and then K5 upgrade for $49 during the Thanksgiving sale that lasted through the whole month of December.

I really wasn't gonna go for K5 except the $49 made it a no-brainer, since some of the libraries I had my eye on needed K5 to run.

Turns out the new scripting in K5 has really opened up some interesting things for designers/coders of K5 libraries.
