Je suis outré!

Well, no I'm not. But I also felt that recycling that slogan (as much as I hate them slogans) wasn't necessarily the most appropriate thing one could do.

I do realize that the minute we hold things like slogans for sacred and give them precedence over freedom of speech, we're doing the exact opposite of what we claim to be standing for. But I guess this also leaves one free to call it inappropriate, even more when one considers that the original slogan has a lot to do with religion and politics.

As we know and must accept Krist, when push comes to shove, the concept of free speech does not apply in the Cakewalk Forums. What is deemed acceptable is shaped by the Code of Conduct, and by its interpretation by Cakewalk moderators and forum hosts.

I'm guessing that the very connotation and content of the thread title must by definition be deemed acceptable, as demonstrated by the fact that it was started by one such host, and has included a contribution by another.

It will be interesting to see how these two hosts continue to sit in judgement over the activities of others in view of their acceptance of the rather pathetic and obvious bandwagoning premise of this thread.

Ah the neverending cycle of offense. Some people centuries ago start getting offended by each other's offensive cultures to the point they start committing offensive acts to and directed at each other thus offending both parties more and more increasing the offensiveness of the acts until "modern" times where both sides are so offended and offensive everyone feels justified in all manners of offensive behavior culminating into an offensive group of radicals offending people to the point of creating offensive cartoons that offends the offensive radicals to the point of commiting the offensive act of attacking the object of their offense offending even more people into acting offensively while the attackers gloat offensively...

and here we are today... on the usually benign and non offensive Cakewalk forums that has nothing to do with all that offensive nonsense being offended by offensive statements and premises causing offensive reactions likely designed to offend the offending parties into being so offensive that everyone will be offended.

I, personally, am offended.

this must rank as possibly the most thoughtless and tacky example of poor taste I've ever come across in these forums in all the time I've been coming here.

You must have missed most of Robby's late-nite ramblings then mate...

I catch up on the iPlayer

Mind you, on a serious note, it was interesting and illuminating to see recently that in some of the threads Robby's participated in under his latest reincarnation, a number of forum hosts have seen fit to engage him in conversation, knowing as they must that he's currently banned from here. Such a selective ability to 'look the other way' when one of their friends is involved is a characteristic that really shouldn't be in their modus operandi. At least not in my opinion, anyway.

Oh I'm not offended Beep.

As far as I'm concerned, Alex can post whatever he likes.

If he believes his parodying of the phrase "Je Suis Charlie" for trivial reasons is OK, then by the same token, it should also be fine for me to suggest that maybe I believe that it isn't such a good idea.

Simple as that really.

I stand with Steve on this one. Yes, everyone has a right to their opinion but poor taste is poor taste. IT lacks of judgement, is insensitive to millions in France that are standing up, and on and on.

Jokes based on the misery and misfortune of others are borne out of ignorance and immaturity which then others have to put up with in the name of free speech. That is why we have a TOS but I guess in this case, this thread passes as OK. This thread should have been nipped at the onset.

And yes bat, there are other enormous and important issues in the world today. This thread is poking fun at just one of them and therefore we can respond or move on. I chose to respond to this issue.

I just think the world in general needs to turn the outrage dial down a bit. 12 people getting killed? Oh yeah, that's something to get upset about. An ill conceived thread title? Meh.
It's the internet. The most offensive invention since puppy punting.

In all fairness Beep, there is a lot more to the Charlie Hebdo tragedy than just the senseless act of savagery that took place. I could type for hours on its implications regarding free speech and our "western" freedoms in general, but to avoid crossing into COC-transgression territory I'll leave it at that.

Like I said, Alex can post what he likes as far as I'm concerned, but *my* opinion remains that whatever reasons he had for using the "Je Suis" theme to begin this thread were misguided.

To be honest, I don't really understand the point of posting it at all, unless as I've surmised, it was meant to be some sort of declaration of support for Cakewalk. But the context, or using this particular linguistic mechanism to start a discussion about why he "is" Cakewalk, is beyond me I'm afraid.

I think it was a post of sheer exasperation after two long days of the mayhem going on upstairs. I was starting to get a little testy (as opposed to teste) myself and I'm not even a host. I was just trying to help people understand some of the new stuff to keep the freakouts under control and the derp just kept on comin'. Everyone seems to get it now for the most part and it's a lot calmer today but it was getting pretty hairy and angsty for a while.

So yeah, ill conceived but that can happen to the best of us when under duress. Knowaddimean?
