Anybody using RX 4 yet? Does the new RX Connect feature work better than setting up RX as a WaveEditor in the registry?

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu\External Audio Editor - RX3]
"MenuText"="RX3"
"StatusBarText"="Run RX3"
"Type"="WaveEditor"
"ExePath"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\iZotope\\RX 3\\win64\\iZotope RX 3.exe"

I have RX 3, and looked at the "new" features in RX 4 and couldn't justify the $300.00 upgrade fee.

Thanks, Walt. I'm guessing you have Advanced, if the upgrade is that much? I just have the standard version and can get the upgrade through audiodeluxe.com for $84.99.

However, I just installed the trial and the specific feature I was wondering about, RX 4 Connect, which is supposed to seamlessly integrate the standalone version with the DAW of your choice, is actually more cumbersome than having it set up as a WaveEditor for SONAR in the registry.

Oh, well. That, coupled with the fact that, like you, I'm not seeing anything new that seems like a "must have", I'm probably going to just stick with RX 3.

I asked them about ARA and the support guy had no idea what it was and said they had no plans to implement it right now. Way to miss the boat.

I really don't understand why RX needs ARA. There's nothing RX does that would be benefited by ARA.

You don't NEED ARA for Melodyne either. But being able to process a clip in place within the Sonar interface seems useful.

I'm just working with RX4 Advanced.
"Connect" works only for a few seconds of audio (as in preferences "command Audio length").
For longer clips I have to load the files direct in the RX4 Editor.

I can already process a clip in place using RX via Sonars utility menu if I want to. Nothing to do with ARA.

True, and I suppose noise removal is a little less prone to revision than pitch and time may be. Still, it's destructive editing. Again, it's not really necessary for Melodyne either, it just makes things a little quicker and easier.

Yes it is RX3 Advanced. I just used it to "save" a ruined audio in a Wedding Video shot at Enchantment Resort in Sedona AZ. The Wedding Ceremony was held outside next to the Casita's Swimming Pool. Between the Pool's Filtration System, the three large air conditioners for the Casita, a twin engine airplane flying overhead, and the 350 camera clicks from the photographer, you couldn't hear too much of the vocals.

It took two weeks of surgery, but all of the offending "noise" was removed and the minister and Bride and Groom's voices could be clearly heard. Great program and with Sonar music editing, the video is a keeper.
