What a sad moment in time, that has hung around since yesterday morning.  I really needed something a bit stronger than synths.  So I decided to break out the guitar..   I have been trying to record myself playing guitar, coming on 7/8 years, that I have been producing now..  Its been really tricky..  "The logistics, of getting my guitar playing, to fit with my electronic beats, and synth programming," has been really tricky...

I've had to spend so much time producing, that I really am, "quite rusty," at guitar.  But..  oh well..   Its coming together a little..

This is my ideas of American Jazz.   This is a hi-gain guitar, with a jazz structure..

I dunno..   Wow, I am so sad right now..  I really feel for that horrible tragedy in Connecticut..   I love music though...

Hello LP,
I'll be honest with you, I didn't listen past 1:30.  The underlying beat and synths, to me, sounded really good, but the guitar was way too hot and, well, too dissonant and out of sync with the beat for my taste, very chaotic.

might just be that I'm an old "fuddy duddy" - but I didn't care for the guitar at all.

If this was inspired by yesterday's event, then I quite understand the chaos.  But, I need some time to process this tragedy before I listen to this again.

Hey Linear I quite like it except the mix is pretty terrible. It is just sounds like all guitar and not much else. Try re mixing this so the rhythm section is much more up front and the guitar is back into the music much more. It should sound quite different and much better.

Hi Jeff, I know.. I think, "yesterday might not have been my best day to make a great mix." I don't know where my head was at!! But forget the excuses, cause I have no business making em.. I need to find where in mixes, I should be putting my guitar = no excuse for that.

Thank you so much,

Cheers

I know.. My whole soul ached in a way yesterday... Don't have the words

Thank you Lynn, for making some noise in this thread

Cheers

I find setting guitar (lead) levels pretty similar to how I set vocal levels into the music. I use a small mono speaker turned down low in volume. I just listen to the music with the lead sound (vocals or whatever) turned off and slowly bring it up so it becomes audible, clear and just loud enough to hear nicely. Then when you crank it up loud it is usually right on the money.

You can still use your main monitors to do this too by simply turning them way down and applying the same approach. By turning your speakers way down you are not blinded in a way by the bottom end and the high end. You are just left with all the mid range components so they are a bit easier to balance. I use the term 'critical mix' to describe getting all the mid range stuff in balance.

Thanks Jon. I would love you to have a crack at remixing DreamCatcher and see what comes out. Once the rhythm section is exposed and the feel and groove is much more clear and exposed and the guitar set  back into the music you are going to hear how well the guitar part actually fits into the music I am sure of it.
