  • Long May You Live - remix - 12/9/12 version 1.3

Lynn
Hi, friends, I just posted my latest song for your invaluable help and time.  This is a tongue in cheek look at my life, so if anyone happens to see themselves in this song, it's purely coincidental.  I started this about 10 days ago, so it's still in the nursing stage of life.  Except for Superior Drummer, it was recorded entirely in the box in X2.  As always, I'm grateful of your time and assistance with my music.  I hope you enjoy.

12/9/12:  Here is mix #4.  Thanks to Danny Danzi and Beagle for their golden ears I was able to track down the reason for clicks in the last couple of mixes.  The output of TH2 was overloading, so I backed it down to a safe level and remixed.  Foxwolfen suggested more low end, so I raised the HPF on the bass drum and guitar to let more lows in.  I hope this helps satisfy those concerns; I certainly hear a difference.

Here's the Soundcloud version: https://soundcloud.com/ly...on-4/long-may-you-live

Days just keep on passing by
It looks like I've got nothing left but time
Years don't have that far to go
Do I have enough to do the crime?
When I look back on what I've done
No one ever held a gun on me
Words will never be my alibi
The path I took is plain for all to see
I'm not afraid of who I am
I only fear the person I can be

CHORUS:            Far as I can tell
I'm as close as I can get to the gates of hell
                        Long may you live
I only hope that you can still forgive

Change can be so hard to bear
There's nothing close that even comes to mind
Life gets harder every day
When it should be easier to find
Goals can be so hard to reach
They can take your confidence away
Ends that I know I'll never meet
Make it easier to go astray
Pray before I go to sleep
There's no guarantee I'll wake today

CHORUS

Life... has been good to me
I wish that I had been there for it all
Love's... been a tragedy
But, each and every time it's been a ball

Wow... that's knocked out... I love it...

the recording is very hot... something is clipping... Vox???
But then, that may be intentional... I still love it... needs a better ending...

cool song - I like the different levels of dry/wet on the vocal on certain lines - very effective (I could be stealing that one). The drums should be driving the song and they seem a bit lost in the mix IMO.

Holy Moly! I love this!! IMHO I'd bring up the drums as Daryl said and the guitar leads/fills up a bit. Everything else I hear is fine. GREAT TUNE LYNN!

This song is crying out for "guitar..." I hear something that sounds like a guitar in the background?

I would add a rhythm guitar, and fix whatever it is you've done to that poor guitar :-( (in this version? It's been abused...)

(I'm sorry, many people blow smoke? I try to give honest opinions. Not talking about anyone here. Just saying, I call um the way I see "hear" um.)

I like your voice lynn. Smooth. I was thinking much the same as Robbie. Needs something bigger for the guitar.

Hey, Lynn,

Cool and very creative song with great lyrics, excellent vocals and instrumental performances!

I really love the keyboards on this one, and also the wild bass lines.  I do think I agree with Daryl and Bill that maybe the drums could be "beefed up" a little bit to fill out the center of the very busy mix.  Of course, that's only subjective personal opinion, and the song sounds great as it is.

Really nice work, Lynn, good stuff, buddy!

Frank, thanks for listening.  I'm not sure what's distorting, but I remastered a bit lower this time.

Dary, thanks for your time and comments.  I boosted the drums on this mix and paid attentions to the EQ this time.  Good call.  The wet/dry technique has been around for a while, but I love it in situations where I can vary the texture of the mix.

bayoubill, you have good ears, and I have taken your suggestions with this new mix.  Thanks for helping.

Robbie, I hope you hear what you're looking for this time.  Rather than go with a rhythm guitar, I chose to use the electric piano that comes with X2.  I appreciate your time and good ears.

Shad, thanks for stopping by.  Let me know if this version is closer to what you hear.  It's alway good to hear from you.

Bob, thank you for you kind comments.  As stated above, the drums have been beefed up a bit.  I'm curious to know if it's enough.

The new mix can be found here:  http://www.soundclick.com...hi&songID=12036664  or in my first post.
