Very carnival-esque and also Yes inspired esp w/ the cool lesley-ish organ sounds-

funky in a Frank Zappa sorta way - but with an homage to the 80s sound w/ upbeat rhythm track and affected digi-snare envelope

love the gruffness of your voice & harmonies- a rugged beauty here- i think you could raise the vox a tad

guitar solo could be longer? and more up front in mix.  there is some Steely Dan in there too in a Donald Fagen way in terms of overall soundscape.... adding a classic and archetypal sound dimension.

enjoyed this immensely, dude-  great song. one that you want to play over and over a few times thoroughly enjoy all the wheels going 'round :)

This is trivial, but you should give it 1 to 1.5 seconds of silence in the beginning :-) Told you it was trivial?

I listened again and listened to the pie-anne rhythem part, I can hear where you're going. it's over here ------> Why not a corresponding r-guit part over here? <-------- ? It could be a simple on the beat strumming part? da da da da da da da on the root? With the keys doing their melody part over there ------>

I like the tune, it just seems like something is either there that shouldn't be, or not there that should be. But hey? We're all producers, every one of us, and if you ask 5 different people for honest opinions? You'll get 5 different honest opinions :-) Ain't creativity grand?

Lynn I love this song. Your arrangement skills and ideas always seem great to me. Musically this is one of your better ones. Everything I hear from you is great so it is hard to judge which one is best. Awesome job my friend!!!

Lynn, really enjoyed this myself. I didn't hear the other mix you did, but the three things that come to mind for me are...

1. Vocals seem to get a little lost at times when all the instruments are full bore.

2. Mix seems a little bright due to the drums. Like the cymbals and snare are pretty bright to me. This could be due to 2 things:

a. You need to low pass your verb on the drums as the high end in it *could* make your drums sound a little snappier than they should due to the verb.

b. Try backing some high end down on the snare and cymbals.

3. This mix is rather loud...which I'm not used to hearing from you. It doesn't sound too squashed or anything, but it's really loud on my end and my monitors are like 1/4 up. I hear a little something weird going on when all the instruments are wide open. It gets kind of jumbled. I can't put my finger on what it is...it very well could be a bit too much limiting, but it's definitely hot.

I love the song, the arrangement and all you did here. Your voice sounds great too! I think with a few tweaks, this will be in great shape. The "bright" thing is sort of subjective. Some mixes sound good a little bright and get that "poppy" sound...which is good. But this one seemed to hit my high end threshold pretty hard and I've been recording, mixing, and mastering since 6 pm. LOL! So my ears are nearly fried about now and the highs are still hitting pretty hard. A fresh listen to this and it may be a little much for me....but see what you think now that I've brought it to your attention. I'll listen fresh and let you know if I still hear it when I get up if this mix is still up.

Really nice job though, great song with lots of elements to enjoy! :)

Nice arrangement. Love the roomy snare sound, the phasey clav, the nifty synth licks. A clean and clear mix.

The toms wimp out a little when they take over, though. Lemme throw out some of my favorite SD tom tricks for you to consider:
- use the envelope controls to take a couple milliseconds off the ring of the floor tom
- apply the built-in transient shaper to bring out the initial hits (1db boost to the attack is often all it takes)
- just for grins, consider some subtle parallel distortion on the toms

Probably wouldn't hurt to bring up the kick a little, too.

Yep... cool tune. Enjoyable tune for sure...

I do like the way Danny put it that when everything is full bore the vox get a bit lost and the mix sounds a tad bit jumbled. The drums also at that point are sounding like they are doing some massive crazy thing.... but it adds to the confusion in the mix...... at least that is what it sounds like to me.

Initially I misread the title..... I thought it was a cover of Mr Young's Long may you run....

The intro was kinda like Stix a bit with the synths....

Over all, I like it.

Frank, thanks for taking the time to listen again.  I did the ending per your suggestion, and I'm happy that I changed it.

Daren, I love the way you write a critique.  I'm hearing similar comments on the vocal, so it will be my next priority.  I'll pay attention to the gtr solos, as well.  Thanks for stopping by and congrats on your new stuff.

Robbie, thank you for the second listen.  I thought about adding a 2nd gtr., but as you can see from some comments, it's pretty cluttered already.  Yet, these are good ideas and give me something to think about.

Marcus, I appreciate your comments and compliment.  I feel the same about your material.

Danny, thank you so much for weighing in.  I'm going to make your ideas a priority on the next pass.  It's ideas like this that I look for.  I will try to give this mix more breathing room and balance the drums better.  I'm getting a clearer picture, now.

Dave, thanks for stopping by.  Your suggestions about SD are what I needed.  I'm still getting to know the program and it's own f/x, but this is what I need to point me in the right direction.  You can be sure that between you and Danny and the others, this song will continue to grow.

Herb, I appreciate your comments which reflect much of what I'm hearing from others.  I'll be working on this all day, so I hope to have a much improved version up before long.  You and all the others who have commented help me immensely in my little Hobbit cave.

Thanks again to all!!

I like the rhythm on this and the guitar panned left. The keys sit in there perfect. Your voice reminds me of David Lee Roth. Very well put together Lynn. It is always fun to hear what you came up with!
