Hello all,

I haven't posted a song in quite a long time. So, I thought I share my first mix of a Country song by Blackhawk called; "I Sure Can Smell The Rain. One of my favorites. Please feel free to comment and critique. I haven't spent much time in the Forums lately due to a couple of surgeries, but, I'm now feeling great and ready to participate and enjoy all your wonderful music.

You have cut too much from the bottom of the guitar and vox. Drums are nice, and bass is tight, but the vox and guitar make the song a bit cold. Otherwise a pretty decent performance. edit -let me modify that a bit, you may want to automate the highpass so the warmth of the guitar is there when its pronounced, and then cool it off a bit when its more buried behind the electric.

Thanks for listening Shad. I was actually going for a "jangly" rhythm guitar sound, but I did cut-off a bit too much. The mix sounds very different on Soundcloud than in my studio. I'll have to revisit the mix stage with this one. Thanks again Shad.

Shad,

I assumed you were talking about the two rhythm guitar tracks?

Yes, but taking second listen, I think I understand better whats happening. Maybe just warm up the vox a bit to start. It might be the "both together" as opposed to "one or the other", if you get what I mean.

PS - As we both did not know the other was not around, I figured we would just pick up like we never left(if you were wondering about the bluntness of my reply hehehe)

Well done on the recording... sounds very good. nice harmonies and the mix is balanced.

I agree 100% on the comment above that a song sounds so much better in the studio vs here on the net.... you are dealing with MP3 and the conversion process and the artifacts left behind as well as the settings of the specific music player.

Compared to other songs I have heard this morning.... this one has a much lower volume and is lacking a nice bottom end.... aside from that, the recording is well done.

Very nice cover - performances are excellent and I really like the character in your voice.

I had trouble with soundcloud doing weird things to my mix until I started uploading 24 bit Waves which sound great.
the upload obviously takes longer but it's worth it in the end and the size of the file doesn't make any difference to your storage on SC as the storage is time (minutes) based

Shad,
Thanks for your input, and don't worry about being blunt. I'm a big-boy and appreciate all constructive criticism. Nice to talk with you again.

Thanks Guitarhacker for the nice comments. I used to have a Soundclick account and I think they do a better job maintaining a mix. And yes, MP3's can be problematic. As for being low in level, I have yet to "master" this mix. I just wanted to post a developing mix to get some feedback.  Thanks again.
