As soon as I see that As Seen On TV logo on a box, I'm immediately alerted to the fact that worthless junk is contained inside and my wallet stays firmly in my pocket. I don't consider myself unusual in this respect. So why do they do it? Are there STILL people who associate TV advertising with quality? Hmm, don't answer that....sigh....

Having a little insight into this i can tell you firsthand that they do it because it is effective. We all know that most of those gadgets will not work nearly as well as on tv, just like we know our burger willnot look nearly as juicy as the one in the commercial. The " as seen on tv" is a familiarity trigger for a product that would likely get ignored if you just saw it on shelves. It is meant to grab impulse shoppers who were likely going to buy some form of junk anyway and the image puts them to the head of the line. There are lots of buzzwords and images that totally insult our collective intelligence yet work very well. I have written  crap for ads that made me gag when said allowed, yet i knew they would achieve  desired results.

I've been wearing one of those logos for some time now. When people see it, they start talking about how they want to spend less time watching TV. 

If it doesn't have 'as seen on TV', how will we know to put it in our 'as seen on TV' aisle?

They do it to catch my mother inlaw as she wanders through the aisles in her usual unblinking stupor. She sees the logo and it stops her frozen in her tracks, and she blinks rapidly at the box and it triggers the Pavlovian response that she saw it on tv and said to herself "ooo I need that".

Flowbee!!! one of my all time favs.  The spray on hair was another fav.  i think it is more than just stupidity.  It is rare when a week goes by where I don't come across an otherwise rational person repeating some misconception about the law.  how often have you heard someone claiming they would sue for "false advertising"?  Just recently on this forum several members kept repeating the false old wives tale that companies have to honor misprinted or accidentally listed prices.   There is a common mistaken thought among many that the ywould not be able to legally advertise such claims if they were not true. The law does offer some protection, but most companies get around it by offering money back if not satisfied.  Most people will not take their company up on that on such cheap items even if they hate the product.

Are you saying that I don't understand the law? Are you saying that when I jump to conclusions without any facts, comprehension, or intelligence, that I could be wrong? Are you seriously suggesting that, in my absolute ignorance, I may not be an expert? Let me tell you something. I have read all about it. Well, I saw someone read about it on TV. Actually, they were looking at the pictures in a magazine. Okay, here it is. When you say that I'm wrong just because I am, that makes me look stupid. You know what that is? That's stupidism, and its wrong. I could sue you for slanderation or something. You see, I can tell other people that they are wrong, but they can't tell me that I am. It's called the Freedom of Speeches. It's in the Declaration of Dependence or the Constitutional or the EULA, you know. Nobody makes me look stupid but me. Alright? That's the law. Hand me my snuggie.
