If you missed this, it's a truly incredible and very moving bit of telly, and well worth a watch on the BBC iPlayer (UK); or if they broadcast it wherever you are. In any event, I'd imagine this will turn up on YouTube before too long.

The acting is wonderful, and the seamless way in which the programme moves between the actual footage from Eichmann's trial and the filming done of the behind the scenes events for this show is a credit to the production team. The subject matter is chilling enough, but to hear the witnesses' testimony and view the film footage and photographs used as evidence in the trial, all interspersed with the close-ups of Eichmann that Leo Hurwitz is concentrating on (hoping to capture the exact moment Eichmann 'cracks') is absolutely compelling.

Here's the BBC2 trailer, to give you an idea:

And the show description from the BBC website:

The behind-the-scenes true life story of a groundbreaking producer, Milton Fruchtman, and blacklisted TV director Leo Hurwitz who, overcoming enormous obstacles, set out to capture the testimony of one of the war's most notorious Nazis, Adolf Eichmann. He is accused of executing the 'final solution' and organising the murder of 6 million Jews. This is the extraordinary story of how the trial came to be televised and the team that made it happen.

Filming at his trial in Jerusalem in 1961, their production becomes the world's first ever global TV documentary series, the first time the horror of the camps has been heard directly from the mouths of its victims. Edited daily and broadcast in Germany, America, Israel and 34 other countries, people fainted when they saw it on TV. Never before has there been such drama in the use of cameras, their positioning, or the revolutionary effect of operators being able to adjust frame and position to match subject and content.

Absolutely stunning, and yes, extremely moving. A masterpiece, IMO.

James, the sad thing is, and despite the frequent plugs they've given this show, I'll wager more people regularly tune-in to watch Keith Lemon, TOWIE, Big Brother, or some other complete waste of the electromagnetic spectrum than saw this tonight.

I really hope not though.

Definite BAFTA contender that one.
