I will confess my ignorance and say i did not know who Butch Vig was. So when I saw the thread title on my phone at first I did not regester the WAVES bit.  I was expecting some sort of "butch" Kontakt vocal library.

Bitflipper - Butch actually had a LOT of imput into this plugin, unlike a lot fo the other Waves "signature" plugins that are in name only.
 
check out this like with Butch talking about the design of the plugin and more indepth about the EQ, +/-db etc.  much more than pervious "It's Waves, it's got a Grammy name attached, buy it now!" plugin.

Maybe I'm wrong and Butch was in there laying out data structures and optimizing loops, but I seriously doubt he had any hand in actually designing the plugin beyond "it should have a de-esser" and such. Claiming design credit is like saying "I designed the space shuttle...it was my idea to paint it white".
 
This comment is in no way a slam against Mr. Vig. He's the real deal, knows his sht. But he mixed all those great records without the Butch Vig Vocal Plugin. In fact, his career predates Waves and digital audio. The point being that he didn't need this plugin, and you don't, either.

It's not that relevant. In the end it's name on it & his endorsement like many other products.
Obviously he was involved with the development but to what extent I don't know.
To guess would be mere speculation & not the criteria I use to judge the quality or value of a product.
