IMO it's only subscription if you use an analogy like magazines. When your subscription runs out you still have the past issues (if you are a hoarder like me).

This IS NOT the Adobe model. With the Adobe model (as I've been corrected) you do not get to keep anything once you stop monthly payments. Period. No matte how many payments you make.

In the new SONAR we have options.

Pay upfront for SONAR and you get what you get like you did for your last version (if you're an upgrade customer) plus any updates for the next 12 months.
OR
Pay monthly (+vig) and you are renting. Stop before 12 months of payments and you return your rental.

But here is the bonus (vs. Adobe). Pay monthly for 12 consecutive months and you EVERYTHING (updates etc.) to THAT POINT IN TIME and it will never expire. You simply paid just a little more (the vig) but your SONAR is no different than the person who paid up front on the same day as you started month 1.

Now that seems simple to me.

Where everyone upstairs is confused or trying to mangle the issue is over the monthly plan.
1) What if I "rent" for two months, why don't I get what it was at day 1?
2) What if I "rent" for two months, stay away for three, why can't my previous two months be part of my next 12 consecutive?
3) ad nausea

What if I jumped three times really high in the air. But then only rented 3 months. Then after a 2 month break from my trip to the Bahamas I started renting again? But I repeated my Jumping really high ... but this time yelled "Cakewalk is the best" then clicked my Ruby slipper heels three times and said "there is no place like home"

Why wouldn't that just let me have Sonar?

SO UNFAIR!!!

ALL I want to do is take a trip to the Bahamas and own Sonar!!

GRRRRRRRR

Good to see you......practicing your dance moves for the Bahama's!!! (I'd leave those Ruby heels at home tho...YMMV).

This thread seems a little empty at page 1.5, I was expecting something to happen there, but it didn't.

Drew, see highlight in post 87. latest...anytime you purchase. That says to me after a pause and I pay the appropriate price I get (all of) what came after my pause. Why would I not get it all? It's what is current.

My brain is all confused, but my impression is somewheres upstairs they made a distinction between features/program functionality and content.

But I'm not sure that this has been exactly spelled out or even if they know themselves yet exactly what it's going to be.

It's not a big deal to me either way as I'm not exactly starving for loops/samples/chains/plugins/tutorials/etc. My guess would be they will give current members that kind of stuff in the gaps between releasing actual program features and functionality. In the past, some extras continued to come with every subsequent release whereas other stuff came and went.

I'm just guessing that some of, say, Anderton's handy dandy creations might not be considered part of the core program so if you miss them you don't get them when you opt back in.

I'm going to believe that whatever is in the new Command Center is what anyone gets when they opt in. The command center defines what is currently released (IMO).

Most importantly is that the bakers have said (upstairs) that they anticipate monthly updates. Will every month be something ground breaking? Probably not. Any given month may just be several bug fixes. It appears that they have constructed a better delivery system (no installers need to be created etc.) to accomplish this with the ability to roll back.
