Roll backs are no big deal, I can do it now. My concern is that build 214 will introduce a new module that doesn't work right until build 300. "We decided to put it back into the oven for a few months", wasn't completely baked.

Now we are buying a package and promises. They can keep showing new features that they are working on and claim that they coming soon, even if they're not. I'm also really confused when Craig says that development time will be enhanced by the new billing scheme. Makes no sense.

Where did I say that? Not my intent. Enhanced for the provider and developer. Those getting paid to provide Tech. and development.

Lastly when did it ever cost $199 to buy an upgrade between two consecutive Sonar Platinum (nee Producer) versions even given that the release cycle has generally been longer than a year?

I am still wondering HOW upstairs says I will receive X4 and X5 in the same year also.

This time of year,  in fact a few months ago, everyone was expecting X4 to be released.  The Bakers have been busy coding since X3 and, except for a few "quickfixes" that pushed it to X3e, everything they've done they're releasing now.  This release would have been called X4 if the system hadn't been changed.

During the next 12 months the Bakers will still be busy coding and when it gets to next January everything they've written would have been released in one go as X5.  The difference with the new membership scheme is that as each individual new section is completed is it released immediately, rather than waiting until next January.  The net result is that by Next January you end up with X5, but you got most of it early.

FOR A SHORT PERIOD ONLY there is a $50 discount on the top tier update path,  which effectively means you're getting both the current new release (X4) AND next years X5 release for $149.

I don't want to sound too corporate,  but that looks like a good deal to me....

OK suppose I buy in this month on say, January 20th for one year. I don't renew on jan 20, 2016.

NEXT years, 2016, X5 is released January 21...........

I am using a one day window but whose to say their schedule for the next release is known, its all speculation and "good faith" right now.

MM100,

Karyn is using X4 and X5 as analogies.

In reality henceforth there is not "release" of a product.

You may start on Jan 21 and I may start on May 16th, we both get anything that is delivered to the Command Center (as long as we are active members) for our 12 month period.

Under this model unless EVERYONE signs up for 12 months on the exact same day what each of has may well be different at the end of OUR 12 month membership.

Quoted from the Compare Versions page (highlighted by me)

Which version is right for you?

SONAR now boasts a powerful new line up designed to meet the needs of any musician, regardless of skill level or budget. And every version includes 12 months of membership meaning you will always get the latest and greatest version no matter when you make your purchase. Craft your very own masterpiece today with the most enjoyable DAW in the industry.

Version is now really "current build". Which could be a new feature, a set of bug fixes, new content etc.

We just have to stop thinking in terms of X1, X2, X3 and/or a completed cycle. The only completed cycle is YOUR 12 months (when you stop).

And so, to use your example, on your year two, there is no release per se as you already have everything that was released up to that point and now you are paying for what is to come.

Theoretically you could pause for year (or 6 months or 203 days) and jump back on, but again at that point it's not X5 it's your product (Artist, Pro or Plat) and everything that was delivered during your pause.

It remains to be see what the price will be but it appears (for Plat) it would be $199 (assuming you want to pay for 12 months in advance).

Agree with everything else, but I should point out that my understanding is if you take a timeout, it seems that you will get any features released in the interim but there could be "content" you don't get.

You know, like loops and stuff , but perhaps also plugins or summin'. It's not 100% clear to me right now.

Drew, see highlight in post 87. latest...anytime you purchase. That says to me after a pause and I pay the appropriate price I get (all of) what came after my pause. Why would I not get it all? It's what is current.
