hi ya'll! been a while. hoping my schedule changes back so i can get on here more often again :)
anyway here's a live track w/ one chorus vocal harmony overdub. i know i'm singing flat in some places and sound quality is what is what it is being live, but i think the essence of the tune comes across sufficiently at least.  lyrics are sparse, comparatively 'lazy' against other material... rather co-dependently macabre and self-loathing lol ;p and delivered kinda david bowie-ish esp in the choruses. very raw and grungy. simple song w/ descending bassline
playing a jaguar through vintage tube ampeg VT22 w/ flanger pedal
happy holidays!  - Daren

Daren Thomas Turner: guitars, vocals
Rob Wilson: drums
Daniel Denial: bass

i am just in between my hating
and i just want to be with my baby
and i don't want to die, so save me
don't hang me out to dry, and stab me

could i stay here tonight, for just a little,

it's cold outside my dear
if you say it's alright, i need your shelter
but bury me if you go

i am just in between my hatred

and i just want to be with my baby
and i don't want to cry, so save me
don't hang me out to dry, and stab me

could i stay here tonight, for just a little,

it's cold outside my dear
if you say it's alright, i need your shelter
but bury me if you go

Enjoyed this. Pretty impressive for a live track.

Cheers,

Dark, moody, and live.  What more could you ask for?  Daren, it's good to see you back.  This seems different from what I'm used to hearing from ABV.  You can't be too creative.  I like the rawness of this mix.  It left me wanting more, like a good appetizer.

I liked the song but the long flowing reverb on the vox didn`t match the almost dry sounding drums or any of the other instruments ...I felt the bass was getting muddied up by the Reverb. And dude do you ever look like PhilX in your pic.

Thanks for sharing Daren. This mix comes across raw and real.  You could really bring the nectar out of it with a few more tweaks. What you have done here shows the potential of the song. Without too much more you could make it killer. I understand that this was live and that you are using effects that don't lend themselves well to seperation in a mix. Specifically I think some thinning down in the EQ end would help and balancing some of those verb sends.JMO

I always like what you do with the guitar. In this case the use of the flanging is well done and adds to the grunge type of music that this is.

Nice work... cool song, well produced... I can hear the vocals better in this, than in some of your others... but it almost sounds like you are delibrately singing off key... what's up with that?

hey thanks everybody for enduring this live track lol  srsly tho thanks much for feedback

no production at all here obviously ... wanted to show us raw and going through the artistic process really.  no vocal layers or guitar layers, with live drummer.  huge amounts of bleed in the mics were issue #1.  issue #2 was that even though we tuned down to Eflat, Dan's bass seemed somewhere in between when i separate and compare to guitar on board- but with bleed it's hard to tell, & the flange fx complicated this inside my headphone so my vocal is like singing out into this tuneless-void --
but i said 'f*kit' and used it anyway 'casue it gave it all a stoney/grungy/TheCure-ish vibe imo -  i added the harmony in chorus 'lift' to make it more pronounced.  i don't seem as out of tune in the chorus than the verses, 1st one especially

i have a love/hate relation with the flanger fx too-- i didn't capture at all the stereo-ness of the flange effect on the recording as i could have doing it in Logic ( it's a flange pedal to that vintage old Ampeg tube amp- one 12" speaker)  or bussing its stereo pan to a stereo channel before printing.  so on this live demo it is more or less '2 dimensional' flanging - which can sound i guess really fecking annoying to some people but neat to others lol  as well as the off key vox- depending on tastes / preferences / amount of bonghits etc...

i don't think i can re-record as we are in a small room and my yelling into mic is in all drum mics in bg bleed and it will sound awful
against something that will be a semi-tone off.   so this is what it is i guess- kinda like what Lynn said about appetizer and Starise brought up about being raw and real with the nectar being there within reach.  you can see it at least ;p
