Nice playing, guys, great job.  This is close to what I imagined in my head when I first heard it, but was unable to produce with the tracks and format (everybody's in!) that was the project's parameters.

I will say this: the song is cool, the instrumentation is cool, but the mix left me wanting a bit: there does not seem to be a main musical element to key in on, and the parts are too distinct to blend together in a nice mélange that would underpin the fine vocals of the notoriously banned Robbie. ;)

Though the mexican flavor of the intro just brought one thing to mind: where are the castanets?!?

James, that is what was different than what I was going to do before you were brought in. ( I am very glad that
you agreed to give it go and hope that if it is tried again that you would produce it).
I was going to use only ONE part submitted for each instrument that I felt was closest to the feel.

I feel that is my fault that it failed. I had never tried an "experiment" such as this and really didn't have the details worked out.
I do believe there is a lot going for this type of project. Very interesting and major fun. I hope maybe it can be tried
again in a way that is not so....hard for the producer.

But not all was lost....far from it.

I think the next project is to write a song, have a good singer record it, and then just sendout the vocals and see what people come up with.
That is a great idea too.
I was editing my previos post. Bapus' comment about a room and dukes...lol...sure didn't want any misunderstandings. I know how easy it is to be taken wrong as my communication skills are questionable.

I still think the acoustic guitar part is the most solid foundation for a tune. Of course keyboardist would maybe
argue the point with reason.

The trick is to keep the project simple. An excellent producer/musician (as you are) with an idea of the tunes character and then only use the the part that fits. For instance; one bass part that is closer than all others.
I believe being overwhelmed with trying to use multiple parts of the same instrument was the downfall...but only
a guess as I believe only you know the truth of the battle. I wasn't there for that part.

I don't think this post is de-railing as the tune is in direct relation but if so, I apologize.

Let me add...
I could imagine...you heard the bass part you were wanting...then communicating your "producing" skill to the
musician....( as you did with me)
Well that's what  happened with me and I enjoyed it. If ever player in the project had had the chance to create the
part with whatever little tweaks the producer suggested then it may have worked. At least every musician that had
submitted a part that would work would have had the enjoyment of working with the producer and maybe the project
could be completed.  I don't know...just my thoughts.

Not too shabby!  The guitars are nice and crisp, the vocals are great. The mix is a little muddy. Would have liked to hear the violin counter the melody rather than stepping on it, but that's just my taste.

Yeah Scotty. Phil said the same thing about the intro/outtro violin. I only had my son here for a short time and he was not feeling well (physically) so I got the best I could out of him.

If you are up for tying something "different", let me know.

I hope your son gets feeling better soon. I'm kind of burried with projects right now so I'll take a rain cheque if you don't mind.

Not a problem.

Scotty is like "a rare and special gem?" "He's like finding a peep hole in to Kim kardashian's dressing room at the local pool? It's a rare "and special treat..."

He's rare and special? That's one of the things that makes him so rare and special?

If you understood more about the instrument? You would understand more about the man... And the very special gift he possesses? The instrument (there are many, but the main one is the violin)

But if you really understand the violin? "If you really understand it? I.e,. you try to play it well?"

Well... Then, "and only then"

Will you understand this man's talent...

Because the instrument is virtually impossible to play?

People? It's not like playing the guitar (which is hard enough) OK? It's not like playing the piano? Which is considerably easier...

You just don't understand...

People who can play this instrument as this man can? Are "rare..." And should be respected for their talent...

I'm not saying that you? "people?" don't have talent on their instruments? Hell... I'm pretty good on mine? In fact? I'm right on up there?

The point I'm making is?  You just don't understand...

Many people can play the guitar? Many people...  Many people can play the bass and drums? Many people...

A few people can sing? (not many as well as me :-)

But to play the strings? And play them well? :-) I love you Scotty :-) I'm not gay for you? But I just really appreciate and respect your talent.

This has a vintage feel of psychedelia that I wrestle with (when mixing collabs).  You avoided the country 'rut' while preserving exceeding human beauty (beyond my comprehension).

Warning; the following is totally personal, IMHO, JMO, and is subject to change.

If you touch this sweet china-doll it may crack.

I could say, I prefer FactoryYoyo's vocals or Twisted Tony's, or Cian's, or even Jule's ... all of whom would handle this baby-doll with tender loving care.

Robbie has an intro hook that is to die for and sustains the lead himself: 10/10
The mixing and production is vintage and not bass-kick hyped: 10/10

My gut forced me to listen twice (it would have been thrice if I wasn't so busy): 10/10

My only neg is the lyrics are a bit womanly, oriental, watery, etc. ... and the watery message doesn't inspire nor stick despite the exceeding pitifulness of desperate love.  Sorry, but I live in a message-centric universe and require much higher intelligence and love to save me: 3/10

I'd say this is my fav collab to date, only because of its exceedingly delicate oriental beauty that I love.  I'm duly envious to the uttermost -- ha ha!

As co-author of the song I would like to thank everyone for listening and commenting.  The story of this song ia a very long one, as some may have inferred from various posts on the thread.  I wrote the lyrics and melody based on a structure and single acoustic guitar track created by Michael and James.

I was also the original vocalist on the song, but was never satisfied with the way I sang the choruses (straining at the top of my range), so I decided to replace myself.  Robby was my first choice for the vocals, and I am absolutely thrilled with the job he did on them.

So far as the lyrics go (Philip's comment) if they were only a 3 out of 10, well then that's on me.  All I can say is that I wrote what I felt at the time and I am happy with what I wrote.  While working on the song I saw a documentary on John Lennon (and Yoko Ono) and their days in New York.  As the lyrics took shape in my head, I think part of their story, and the harassment they endured got incorporated into the lyrics.  Perhaps that explains Philip's description of the lyrics as "womanly" which I personally don't see as necessarily being a negative.  In any case, I thank Philip for his extensive and thoughtful analysis.
