still suffering from post xmas gorging and it`s unseasonably cold and wet so have the ABC (government broadcaster here)coverage on the radio,Aust vs India,day 5 with the chance of a result,if it doesn`t rain.
I tried watching on tv but the incessant replays and commercial ads peed me off-especially as it`s Test cricket not the hit and giggle of pyjama cricket.
so,I have the rounded vowels and clipped accents quietly chatting away in the background whilst dipping my toes in the VVocal thread in the other forum-(wish me luck!)  .
 
The Boxing Day Test was a big thing here before the commercial channels outbid the public broadcasters and many unscheduled naps were taken "listening" to the cricket so just had a big redolent hit,sitting here with those dulcet tones burbling from my AM transistor radio.
ps:anyone who doesn`t care for cricket or doesn`t know what an AM radio is please ignore this post.

BBC radio 5 still does a decent job of test comentary. Geoff Boycott will always make a few non PC comments and the general level of trivia and banter is entertaining in its self.

We have some guys over here who provide ball by ball alternative commentary to all the NZ one dayers. They come up with some good stuff. "Shane Bond steaming in from the Firecats end" (stripclub) and that sort of thing.

I like the channel nine guys except for mark Nicholas. Did you know that Ian Chappell and Ian Botham refuse to be on air at the same time? They resent each other.

I'm very surprised to see other cricket fans here.......let alone Test Cricket!!
 
I've been watching this Test series as well from the States and they show it on a local cable channel Willow Cricket. The commercials are a minimum, so that's not much of an issue. Sometimes it's shown live, and other times delayed. It certainly is a good series though.....last night the Indians were 168/4 and I think needing some 360 odd runs......will be watching again tonite.
 
Interesting, I didn't know the two Ian's didn't like each other.....(usually, when players are off the field, they have a few beers togther and are friends......on the field it's back to war.)

I've won cricket events before. 
(Of course I'm referring to the dart game - I've never even seen the cricket you play with a bowler and a flat bat.)

One thing I really miss is not having live test cricket on BBC television. The voices of Jim Laker and Richie Benaud always provided a knowledgeable and interesting commentary, and Peter West would end the day with the perfect summary at stumps. And of course, we were treated to the glorious Hampshire burr a poetic drawl of the wonderful John Arlott for the live John Player League matches on a Sunday. And all of it without a single commercial break...... bliss.
 
Channel 4 made a decent fist of it for a while when they took over test coverage from the BBC, until the rights were inevitably snaffled up by Sky and lost to terrestrial TV forever.
 
At least there's always been the constant presence of the national institution that is BBC Radio's Test Match Special. If anyone wanted to get an insight into what it meant to be quintessentially English, a few hours spent in the company of Blowers, Aggers, Johnners, Bearders, The Alderman, CMJ et al would surely be all they'd need.
